WHAT'S UP WITH YOUR CHEF??? 8/17/2011

I didn't want to give ANY star. .... after picking up a menu last week to bring home to read over , I saw they had soup . Bing a soup lover I saved my appetite. I arrived here and was ready to be seated, when the man who greated me said My chef just left. I said what??? Are you closed??? this was at 2:10pm 8/17/11. his reply was no. I looked around and saw only one man in there eating. I was so hungry after saving my appetite. He never expland anything, it was very, VERY strange... I thought I better get out while I can. I'll just stick to Nams Kitchen, I never ate at this place and I never will... HERE IS THE TIP: call before you go there and ask if the chef is in... more

Always a great meal! And it's BYOB! 4/4/2011

We're always assured a great meal every time we go! It's not much to look at from the outside, but when you walk through the doors, you're transported into serenity. Beautiful carved wood on the walls and ceiling, flowers and the tables have white linen. I'm a fan of the Japanese eggplant (C4) and order mine with shrimp and extra sauce. The sauce is so good and the shrimp are large - not those bitty little bay shrimp. Lots of veges cooked to perfection. It's a BYOB with a wine shop in the same shopping area. The staff is observant and ready to uncork and gather wine glasses for you - no corkage fee either! The acoustics are great and you can truly have a nice conversation at your table. We've brought multiple friends with us and everything that's been ordered was met with equal delight. Always hot from the kitchen and flavorful. In all of our visits - we've never had a bad experience. We left once only because all the tables were full. The staff took the time to meet us at the door and were apologetic to those of us who just arrived. No complaints as it was obvious there would be a wait and also obvious that business is good there - as it should be!! more

Absolutely Awful 8/31/2010

After choosing two entrees and an appetizer, our total came to $37, and all we got was beef and chicken. We thought we'd give the place a try after reading good reviews. I don'tknow what restaurant they were eating at, because the food here was terrible! All you taste in any of the dishes is coconut milk. The food serving is small given the price, too. It wasn't even that hot when we got it, and we had to wait 30 minutes to get it. My husband got the green chicken curry and i got the Na-Taings, and Saramann, beef. It came with a few pieces of beef, but mostly, as with the curry, it was ALL sauce. And the sauce is so overpowerfully coconut milk based. I know how to make curry, and I know how to make it good. This was a true disappointment, and I highly recommend you look elsewhere unless you want to taste nothing but coconut milk and have semi warm food at expensive prices. more

One of my favorites! 7/17/2009

What a find! We came upon this restaurant by googling Pittsburgh restaurants and saw the five-star reviews and decided to try it. We were not disappointed. The vegetarian spring rolls are the best I've had in this area. We've tried the panang and the curries (which are homemade) and they were delicious. I only wish I lived closer to Pittsburgh so I could try everything on the menu. The decor is wonderful and the dining area is spotless. Great food at an affordable price. Pros: Great food, very clean, great atmosphere, very reasonable Cons: The proprietor rarely smiles but that might be cultural more

Superb Thai restaurant 10/17/2008

I had the opportunity to dine at the Angkor while in Pittsburgh. The Angkor is located in a strip mall but don't let that fool you. A medium sized restaurant, the Angkor is beautifully decorated with authentic Thai wood carvings. The staff are very friendly and quite attentive to their customers. It was like being back in Thailand for me. The food is superb and the Haw Mook was out of this world. Simply the best Thai dish that I've ever had. The dining experience was enhanced by the wonderful Thai woman who is the restaurant's chef. Pros: Ambience, service and decent parking area Cons: can't think of even one more

Hidden gem: world-class Cambodian-Thai artisan dining 6/26/2007

The ambience, food and service all compare favorably with Boston's best Cambodian (""Elephant Walk""). We had the fresh spring rolls, lemon-grass chicken salad (spicy yet refreshing), lock lack (exceptional for red-meat lovers), and a terrific rice noodle dish with shrimp that was recommended by the staff. FANTASTIC! Each had its own wonderfully crafted sauce; portions are generous. The service was attentive, well informed and top-tier for its professionalism. And the room! Exquisite yet comfortable decor-- many authentic details in the interior. You feel transported far away when you enter. Who would expect this in a strip mall? Completely appropriate for special occasion, but get takeout tonight! Pros: World-class Cambodian and Thai food, beautiful ambience (in an unexpected location), wonderful service more
