I would recommend this hostel because there is always a staff there who are ready to bend over backwards to make sure your stay is enjoyable and safe. They are very knowledgable about the Anchorage area and will help you navigate around using the bus system, which main branch is only a block away! They are located directly downtown just a short walk from the train station and the 5th Ave Mall. There are also several popular local pubs, like Humpy's, just right around the corner. They have nightly, weekly, and monthly rates that are very reasonably priced (I know, Ive been there for more than a week now... and plan to stay longer). There is a seperate floor for men and women and the rooms can be private or communal (the private rooms cost a little more, though). There is a very large communal kitchen with utensils, refridgerators, ovens, stoves, plates, etc. provided for guest use. There is also a communal area to watch tv or movies, internet access with 2 computers provided, and meeting rooms. There is also laundry facilities on-site and seperate showers for both men and women. It is a non-smoking facility and it is kept very clean and sanitary (I should know, Im a chef - I know about clean). During the summer they also rent out bikes and there are trailheads right down the street. It is also close to the Center of Performing Arts and the Museum. It is even close to the courthouse, federal building, and most of the downtown hotels. If you are travelling to Anchorage, come check it out!
Pros: clean, affordable, laid-back
Cons: limited parking
