This art musuem is great. It has alot of western art as well as modern art. I love to go here. I could spend hours just looking at all of the different things. The people are very nice there. I love going here and I think most people will love just as much as i do. more

Good for Cowpokes 8/15/2005

The Amon Carter Museum specializes in portraits and paintings of the Old West. You'll find Charles Russell paintings and other famous artists who captured the spirit of the cowhand and their horses during the move west. The Museum is clean and well-lit, but unless you're a huge fan of this type of art, it is somewhat limited and perhaps a little dull. They do have some nice exhibits at times, however, and some of their oils are both rare and exceptional. more

American Art 8/13/2005

See a awesome collection of American Art from the early 1800's to today. They feature a large photo collection with more than thirty thousand images on display. See art by painters such as Alexander Calder, Thomas Cole, Stuart Davis, Thomas Eakins, Winslow Homer, Georgia O'Keeffe, John Singer Sargent, and Alfred Stieglitz. more

nice place 8/10/2005

amon carter always has intersting exhibits. i always enjoy going and wish i could make it by more often. its a very nice facility. the museum district is such a nice area in fort worth. if you havent been you should definetly check it out. i cant remember the admission price, but i can tell you that its worth it. more

Great for western art and more 8/10/2005

I love this place! The Amon Carter has been expanded in size in the last few years and it's great. Very easy to get too, free admission, free parking and photography is allowed inside and on the grounds. They have quite a few programs for kids and their special exhibits tend to rotate fairly often. This is a really neat place to take out of town guests so they can get a taste of Western art history. The staff has always been very friendly and I highly recommend a visit here. more

One of the best in the west 7/27/2005

The Amon Carter is an interesting study in contrasts. It is a sleek, modern building with midcentury-inspired furnishings that houses an impressive collection of Texan and Western art. The traveling exhibition are usually related to Western art or architecture in some way. It's a beautiful museum, and I am happy to spend many an afternoon wandering around there. Admission is still free, as far as I know. more

    In January 1961,shortly after the Amon Carter Museum opened to the public for the first time,Newsweek magazine reported that "this week the blend of old and new will be clearly visible when [Fort Worth] opens its new Amon Carter Museum. The occasion is not only important in itself,but is another sign of the growing interest in art throughout Texas."

    Now,over forty years later,that interest-especially in North Texas-has never been stronger. On October 21,2001,the Amon Carter Museum again opened to the public. This time,though,it did so after a two-year,$39 million expansion that tripled the gallery space to nearly 30,000 square feet; overall,the museum increased tin size from 65,000 to 109,000 square feet.

    This grand,new building,designed by the museum's original architect,Philip Johnson,also establishes the museum as a major conservation center of photography and works on paper,as well as a graduate-level research facility both for scholars of American art and the general public. Beyond this,there are expanded public spaces for education and outreach activities,places where teachers and their students can experience the museum's splendid collections firsthand.

    The main gallery and its satellite galleries,just inside the 1961 entrance,have been beautifully refurbished. From these areas,and from the new entrance on Lancaster Avenue,visitors can proceed into the new building by way of the grand atrium,a wonderful space topped by a low,softly-lit done. A monumental stairway of granite and bronze rises along the shellstone-clad walls to reach the spacious new galleries on the upper floor. Here,visitors can truly appreciate for the first time the awe-inspiring breadth of the museum's permanent collections.
