Best

Amoeba Music on Telegraph Avenue has the greatest selection of music, the most knowledgeable staff, and the best prices. Every genre is well represented, vinyl and CD, new and us...

Worst

I might have given amoeba a 5 star review at one time but now it would only be in comparison to other stores. Unfortunately they are the only game in town. But I have watched over...

Old Style Music Store 4/20/2005

This store is part of Berkeley History and has been around forever. It offers a large mix of music genres crowded into a small space. You can find alot of 2nd hand stuff and also many independent bands and artists. If you want an alternative experience to those big music store chains that look identical from town to the next all over the US then its worth a visit. You can even listen to tunes at listening stations and they dont mind putting a record or to on for you to decide on. more

good place 4/16/2005

i like this place. it has some good deals for top notch cds. the people who work here give you good service. overall this place is a really good cd store. more

It's dirty, but you get your music! 4/12/2005

In the heart of downtown Berkeley, here you can get your hard-to-find music. This place has a huge selection that rivals most large national chains. It actually beat the local Towers into bankruptcy! The cd's are cheap, and the used cd-buy rate is pretty decent. more

do you love it? i love it! 4/3/2005

Amoeba is a very cool place to hang out with friends. I live near this place and it's a great place to go and listen to shows and find good cd's. they're very cheaptoo. more

Can't find a CD you want? Go here. 3/30/2005

Amoeba is widely known for having almost any rare CD that you've been dying for. They have vintage music all the way till our age right now. All genres are sold here and they also have records for turntables. \r \r The best thing about this place is sometimes they run open mic shows and have local or wide mainstream talent perform. This is a place to hangout and a place to look for good talent whether live or in a CD. PROS: Great atmosphere, nice rare items, open-mic shows. CONS: Parking. more

If you like music, go here. 3/8/2005

This is a very unique establishment. There are a few locations through out the Bay Area. I like the Berkeley location the best. You can pretty much find any type of music at this Amoeba store. There is a huge selection of used records/cd/tapes too. And you can sell your used music here.\r \r Next time you are in Berkeley, stroll down Telegraph Ave. and check this place out. Trust me, you will find your music here. There are hard to find artists, world music, old music, new music, and one hit wonder artists too. It's not your average (inserts chain-like music store here). The staff is knowlegable and they always have music playing over the loudspeaker for your enjoyment. PROS: If you want music, look for it here. CONS: more

Freeform Music 5/20/2002

The only problem with Amoeba is that every record or cd I request--which other stores have regarded as esoteric enough to warrant my institutionalization--is all-too-sadly mundane at Amoeba. But no complaints. The selection can't be beat, and the staff manage not to condescent, though their musical knowledge must be aeons beyond those of mere Earthlings. If you only go to one store in Berkeley, this should be the one. more

Telegraph's Musical Smorgasbord 5/12/2002

I have never found a more knowledgeable staff anywhere else. Ever heard something on the radio, loved it, but had no idea who was singing? Go to one of the staff members, explain what it sounded like, throw in a few lyrics and voila. They can always make great recommendations. I have always been steered in the right direction. Ive found music here that I couldnt find anywhere else. Take the stellar selection, knowledgeable staff and the fact that there's as many used CDs as there are new and you've got a musical smorgasbord at a bargain price. While away an afternoon browsing through the bins. Pros: Fabulous Selection, Knowledgeable Staff, Good Prices Cons: Crowded, Long Lines more
