This place has a great atmosphere, the interior decor is amazing, very romantic (dim lights, curtains hanging from the ceiling to separate tables, etc.). The food is also good and they have some unusual selections - like salmon tartare and calamari salad (both yummy). The sake martinis are also fabulous. Zen Grill is a romantic restaurant tucked hidden in Westwood. We were pleasantly surprised by how quickly we were seated and how the service was polite and prompt. I went here w/a girlfriend. the waiter was so nice, did not hound us while we were chatting, let us be without ignoring us. We let him order for us and he give us reccomendations (which I never do). The sushi was great! The drinks were good/fun. The thai food was ok, but not bad. Overall the check was very resonable. The decor is warm. Zen grill doesn't really offer the best tasty asian food in the LA area. i've had better chinese, jap, korean, and/or vietnamese food for a much cheaper price. one thing i do want to praise is their fried banana dessert. a definite must-try!!! This place is elegant and relaxed at the same time. Go there for the great food, or ask the sake experts to educate you on some fantastic exotic sakes in the sake lounge upstairs. This is an experience no one should miss. Big parties or romantic dinner for two. The white gauze panels hanging from the 40 foot ceilings to partition booths down stairs provide privacy and intimacy without shutting the restaurant out. The red carpet, black concrete walls and dark wood sculptured ceiling inspire Zen and elegance. The food is out of this world. What ever you try it will be the best youve ever had. I hate to spread the word, but this place is fantastic. From the Asian inspired decor to the unique and flavorful dishes to the fully stocked Sake bar, this gem of Westwood is a diner's paradise. Once you eat here you will definitely want to go back either for an intimate date, or a friendly gathering! Start with the soft shelled crab tempura and a happy buddha cocktail or one of the many Sake varieties!
