Better than American Coney Island, especially at 2am 9/24/2006

Lafayette Coney Island is the place to be at about 2:15AM after all the bars have closed and their patrons have the munchies. The waiters are rude, the coneys are cooked in about 30 seconds, they serve canned beer (before midnight), and the decor is the same that is was in the late 1970s. However, this is best place to eat late in all of Metro Detroit. The coneys and chili flies slide down your beer coated throat at 2am and it is wonderful. If you come to Detroit and don't go to Lafayette, then you've truly missed out on an American institution. Next door is American Coney Island. It looks cleaner and nicer. Don't go there, Lafayette is the place to be. more

Oh My God Lafayette Coney Island! 8/8/2006

I didn't think I could be any happier than I was when the Pistons won the NBA Championship in 2004. The whole of Detroit was out on the streets that night, playing music, dancing in traffic, honking their horns, raising drunken--but heartfelt--toasts to the team, hugging strangers, calling out to cops who called right back. I didn't think I could be any happier, that is, until we made our way to Lafayette Coney Island after midnight and they served us the most magnificent coney dogs and chili cheese fries. Unmitigated bliss. Lafayette is a pleasure whether you have a championship to celebrate or a heartbreak to heal. more

Everyone Knows... 3/22/2006

Everyone knows my love for the coney. I am always ready for a trip to the place for a coney dog and chili cheese fries. The service is great, the food is fast and it is always a great place to stop on the way to Canada on a Tuesday night. The crowd is always good and if you stay long enough you can get some of the bums from the streets of Detroit to try to sell you random items. more

American Coney Island 2/2/2006

This is a nice little coney island, has a small menu, but the basics. Food came out quickly and nice and hot. The service was quick and the friendly, the only downfall is the parking can be a little difficult, but its in a good location. Price is reasonable as well. more
