Too noisey 12/9/2007

We met another couple for a holiday dinner on Saturday night. The food was good but we felt like we were sitting on top of the other guests. The restaurant is small and we expected a more intimate and quiet atmosphere. We had to shout in order to hear each other even though our table was small and we were sitting close to one another. For the money, I'd look elsewhere. Pros: Food Cons: Too loud and the tables are too close more

A Very Pleasant Restaurant! 8/30/2006

My companion and I dined at Amber on Monday, August 28, 2006. We found both the service and the food to be excellent. My companion ordered from the menu: 1) a smoked salmon with dill and field greens appetizer and 2) peppercorn seared veal medallions in a port sauce, pea and sweet corn risotto, and sauteed mixed vegetables. I ordered from the days specials: 1) lobster bisque with fresh sweet corn and crab meat garnish and 2) pan-seared halibut with orange chipotle sauce, saffron basmati rice, and sauteed mixed vegetables. The portions were right-sized plentiful enough to enjoy and still allow us to take a few bites home to enjoy the next evening. We were well-satisfied with each item and thought the sauces in particular were far above average. The wine selections were also excellent. We especially want to comment on the service at Amber: all of the servers were attentive without being over-bearing. We lingered over our meals, talking and enjoying the evening. Although the restaurant was surprisingly busy for a Monday night, we were never rushed or made to feel anything less than 100% welcomed. Pros: Good food, good service. Cons: A bit noisy. more

Amber is truly a Gem in Westmont 5/19/2006

Amber Restaurant is by far the best secret in the Western Suburbs. From pork tenderloin highlighted on ABC 7 to their seared scallops are incredible treats. I love the outdoor patio. Even on cool nights the atmosphere in the tent is lively, inviting and beautiful under the stars. I especially love the lunch menu's BBQ chicken salad and the ahi tuna nicoise salad. I highly recommend this restaurant for a gourmet dinner; not the usual american fare. Also try the lemon drop or french martininis. They are wonderful! more

A Westmont Treasure 5/19/2006

What has become a Westmont hotspot known for it's food and ambiance still recognizes how to make the dining experience a treat. Reservations are recommended on weekends as this has become a popular dining destination, but if you are willing enjoy a cocktail and conversation, Amber is very accomodating for walk-ins. Amber's outdoor dining area provides a romantic setting and can be enjoyed any time of the year. The staff is a pleasure and punctual yet not overbearing. Try the sea scallop appetizer as it is very tasty and can also be enjoyed as an entre. The Wisconsin Veal chop is highly recommended, as well as the bone in Filet. After dinner, have one of the best bartenders in the burbs make you one of her famous chocolate martinis. Overall, be prepared for an enjoyable evening of cocktails and food when dining at Amber. Pros: Ambiance, Food, Staff Cons: Parking, Crowded more

Food is boring, but good ambience. 5/11/2006

Went to lunch with a friend the other day and loved the cozy atmosphere. However, all of our food was incredibly bland and unimpressive. We ordered the crab & lobster cakes as a starter and it was 98% filler and 2% seafood. I ordered the farfalle pasta with shrimp in a vodka cream sauce, and I felt like I was eating in a senior citizen's home because the food had no taste whatsover. The pasta tasted like it was in vegetable oil and nothing else. The price was average, but I sadly do not think I'll be returning, even though I loved the environment. Pros: Cozy, Intimate, Great service Cons: Bland food more

Always very delightful and relaxing 3/18/2006

I truely enjoy Amber. Although it is a small place, and I could see how lingering over a meal could interfere with their reservations, I find it quite cozy and the food is amazing. I have been there with my family, and my friends, and just my husband. I have eaten inside and on their patio, and I have never felt rushed or unwanted. I would recommend Amber to anyone looking to have a nice dinner out and send a little extra money for a great meal. The wine list is amazing too - and the Martinis are large. Pros: ambiance, food, drinks Cons: limited seating, bar is small and loud more

Bum's Rush 3/5/2006

Saturday night, noisy, ceasar salad light in taste, halibut ""heat lamped"" to death, lobster bisque was ""good"", calamari was inside breading somewhere, filet mignon on the bone was good, chocolate lava cake more like pudding.... after 2 hours and 15 minutes, ( and spending $300.00) our party of 4 was asked to move to their standing room only bar.( to accomodate a party of 10, was the explanation.) The proprietor did not bother with us until we refused their charity of a free drink, and told them of their rediculous request. If you go, eat quickly, don't dally with conversation with friends or clients, or prepare the proper response for this beauty ! oh yes, the proprietor, did give me a card for 2 , yes count'em 2 drinks on the house !! yes that would cover all 4 of us given the BUM's RUSH We shall NOT return ! Pros: Nice decor , Nice staff Cons: noisy, food average for $, got rushed out more
