Phenomenally Philly Cheesesteaks, Astoundingly Authentic... 9/11/2011

Being Pennsylvania dutch, I know what an outstanding, bonified, Real Philly Cheesesteak is, and folks, Amatos, is the only refuge for real, east coast eats. The flavor is incomparable, bursting with sauteed onions, american cheese, marinara sauce, hot and sweet peppers...... The Bread is a homemade potato roll, (traditional way)..... And two hours after it is baked, it is in your mouth......ps.... Dont wear a white shirt, and be prepared to walk like a penguin, post consumption. Also, get a shorty, for it is behemoth. This place has italian hoagies, meatball sandwiches, chicken parmigiana sandwiches .... ALlen east coast staples. Pictures of philly, especially the boathouse rowland, at Christmas, will make you tear up, if your are from yhere like me. Looks for the big philly eagles truck outside. Go Birds ! All hail Amatos...... folks...... Indulgently feast up ..... more

I love love love this place!!! They guys that work there are always friendly and Its like your at your friends house or something!!! The cheese steaks are sooooo good you will be addicted of you dont eat your fingers off.... Pros: Friendly services,great food, good prices Cons: Sometimes it gets really busy but its worth it!! more

These sandwhiches are without a doubt the best on either coast. If youd rather go chew on a wet taco (yes the guy below me doesnt know cr/-\p about Philly and is propably an illegal immagrant) than go elsewhere. If you know anything about food you'll go to this place for your sandwhiches. more

If you're from Philly, you'll be disappointed 12/10/2005

Perhaps if you've grown up on the west coast, the cheesesteaks here might appeal to you. But for a native son of the City of Brotherly Love, these cheesesteaks are awful. The buns are like three times the size they're supposed to be and not brushed with egg enough for the proper crust. The wiz is some generic stuff, not real Cheese Wiz. The steak is sub-par from that used in real Philly joints like Pat's, Genos or Jim's. If you're from Philly, you'll be disappointed so stay away. Pros: Philly Memorabilia Cons: Bad buns, Bad Wiz, Bad Steak more

Amato's is my favorite cheese steak shop on the West Coast. The gentleman who owns it makes the steaks often, and his son works the register. The steaks are delicious - although sometimes they are a little inconsistent. The cheese doesn't always melt by the time you eat it, things like that. BUT!... when they come out right they are as good as any you'll get in Philly (except Mama's in Bala Cynwd.) As far as the Italian Hoagie - it is my favorite one ANYWHERE. I think it is as good as any hoagie you can get. Fat, delicious, and on large soft roll. The meats are high quality and flavorful! God I want one right now! Cheesefries - perfect whizzed deliciousness - and refill sodas. Great place! Fun and delicious. more

Hey for the price I paid wich was about $7.50 with a drink, the other places I went, you could have made 4 of there sandwiches out of just one of Amato's. Oh and the Cheeses fries are the best I have ever eaten, couldn,t finish them either awhole lot of fries in one order. you get your moneys worth here. But big don't always mean good, but in this case the flavor and great taste make you keep eating till you stuffed so i give Amato,s 9 out of 10. good job keep it up more

I request 1/2 the amount of meat with extra cheese. Yum! Ambiance is poor... so take on a romantic picnic or sit by the fire or great for a movie night.
