This is a very irresponsible attorney. Far too expensive, especially when you ask far ahead of time if matters handled. Then you receive no response, yet are billed for your communications. Then at the last minute you are told to 'handle' something that should have been handled by the attorney or staff. And why, the attorney is now tied up in court! He made a couple of huge mistakes- the client ultimately paid the price. Never cleaned up the mess. Client blamed when it was horrible legal representation. Read the retainer agreement very carefully.
