Just heard that Alumni has new owners.....thank you Jesus. The two very rude women that owned the bar (with no bar ownership experience what-so-ever) are finally going to be gone...

Owners are leaving....yay!! 5/25/2010

Just heard that Alumni has new owners.....thank you Jesus. The two very rude women that owned the bar (with no bar ownership experience what-so-ever) are finally going to be gone after this weekend, Memorial weekend 2010. These ladies are rediculous. They have accused my friends of not tipping, they pick and chose who gets half price pizza on thursdays and they take your unfinished beverage out of your hand when they call last call. Rumor has it the new owners own other bars in Columbus but I'm not sure which ones. They are closing the bar this weekend for one month, I'm assuming to remodel. I also heard that the crazy ladies took the pizza oven and freezers???!! Now what the heck are they gonna do with those? Make pizzas in their homes? Give me a break. I can't express how happy I am (and about 20 of my friends) that Alumni has new owners. My friends and I have boycotted that place for a few months now. It'll be nice to have it back as it was before...without all the drama! Pros: good pizza Cons: everything else! more

More than rude owners 3/4/2010

I had not been into the Alumni for awhile but when I have visited the Alumni, I spend about 50 dollars on average. My friend and I were in there last night and we had just sat down and ordered a drink. The owner came over and told us that she had an issue. She then looked at me and said, "I know you haven't been in here the last two times with her, referencing my friend, but you haven't left a tip. My friend explained that she did not pay the last two times she was in so she had no control over the tip. The owner said all her food was on the bill and that she would not be honoring the half price pizza or happy hour drinks for both of us. My friend tried to reason with her telling her she was sure her friend tipped but that tipping wasn't mandatory. The owner then said that no one would wait on us if we stayed. So because I was sitting at a table with a person who was there twice with someone who they claimed didn't tip she came over and made a scene and was very rude. I had not been in the bar either time when these non tipped bills were paid. I posted my experience on Facebook and have about 23 different comments and most of them are another negative experience that was negative and rude. It used to be a really fun place to hang out in but since these two crazy rude women bought the bar its not somewhere I would spend my 50 dollars in. Cons: Owners seem crazy more

Disappointed 9/5/2009

Used to be like a Cheers...now hardly any neighbors go there. Used to love the food, prices, kena, watching games and horse races. All is now gone. The food was great but now sub standard, can't play Keno, can't watch the horse races, almost every screen has the same program. When the Buckeyes played was great place to watch game and enter into raffle for Buckeye items, now this place is DEAD!!! Pros: Close to home Cons: Changed Everything more

Don't order the half price pizza on Thursday 4/1/2009

I actually watched the owner of the bar chastise a patron for ordering a large pizza on half price pizza night and accused him of not eating enough of the pizza. She told him he should have ordered a personal sized pizza and large pizza's were'nt meant for eating some of the pizza and then taking it home to feed his family of four. It looked like the guy had eaten about a 1/5 of the pizza and had several empty beer glasses in front of him. The poor guy looked surpised, confused and then got pretty mad. He had every right to be. He had a few choice words for the owner. My wife and I was planning to buy a pizza and then thought twice about it. If you're going to have a special, then don't be suprised if somebody actually takes advantage of it. I've told several of my friends and they couldn't believe it either. It did make for good entertainment but we'll never be back. Cons: very rude owners more

Love this place STILL! 7/24/2007

10/11/2009 Ok, new ownership is never easy to get used to...but the Alumni deserves another chance! We were very sad to learn the place was being sold too. And watching the new owner make changes was difficult for us but now we are used to the new staff and actually think they are a blast! I wrote a review back in 2007 because this place was fantastic and I am writing this one to tell you it still is! My husband and I love this place and have been going there for years now....half priced wings Tuesdays and half priced pizza Thursdays mostly but they have specials every day of the week. The new owner has changed the atmosphere (it is cleaner and brighter now) and yes no more Keno. But once we gave them a chance we found the staff to be friendly and QUICK!!! No more 3 hour waiting time for your pizza. AND THE PIZZA IS CRAZY GOOD!!!!! We continue to go there and still consider this "our bar." It is worth checking out....you'll see. Pros: Half Price Pizza is the SAME!!!! Cons: Draft Beer Selection Has Changed but Offers NEW Selections! more
