At first, you see the row of motorcycles parked in front, and think ""Whoa, biker bar"". The funny thing is, it's a lot nicer and safer than practically anywhere else on Fourth street. Mark, the owner, seems to work every other shift, which is a lot, since the place is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Meals are available at Big Ed's, the resturaunt that shares the building with Alturas. I like to get a $4 pint of Sam Adams and sit out front on the patio furniture, and just watch the people walk by. Half of the chairs have springs in them, making them super comfy, whilst the other half are stiff and painful. You can spot the good ones by the looped steel under the handrests. Stop by in the evenings and watch the motel across the street, it's like the show 'COPS' without the commercials.
Pros: bike parking, people watching, cute bartenders
Cons: nosey cops
