I love this place! Henry Altermen can talk a bit over your head- but he's in the business and is supposed to be wrapped up in the minutiae of gadgetry. All the salespeople do very well with keeping it real for the rest of us; I like that I can walk in and say ""I want classic two channel stereo that'll knock the plaster off the neighbors walls""( LOL) and I can walk out with stuff better than I ever thought existed. The staff here lives to make you happy. Anything you want you can have.\r
They're also the biggest and best dealers for Boston Aucoustics in the region; 'nuff said? If you don't know what that means they'll show you. Lots of demo. Lots of amazing technology! What fine toys...\r
Alterman seems slightly pricier than a big box store at first, but the quality of equipment you get makes them truly the better bargain. My last system before the storm made me happy every day for eight years and the price was excellent for what it was. The new stuff- including Boston VH1s- still kinda scares me it's so astonishing. And it wasn't that pricey for what it is.\r
At Christmas 2005, After the Deluge, there was a line almost out the door to replace stuff. And people waited, because Alterman customers always come back. You get spoiled ;-D.
Pros: Easy going, very knowledgable, Comfy chairs for the wait
Cons: Since the flood, be prepared to wait. There's just not that many people around who know the products. Grab a leather sofa in front of the 60 inch plasma and the time will fly.
