My girlfriend and I both have Pitbulls. Mine is a 95lb Red Nose male who is very well trained and has the temperament of a kitten. Her's is a 45lb Blue female that HATED other dogs but great with people and kids. Max came to our house on a Monday evening from 6pm-8pm and by the time he left, we were able to walk our dogs side-by-side, together without my girlfriend's dog wanting to eat my dog. By Thursday, both dogs were able to be in the home, loose, without being separated. In fact, both dogs cannot get enough of each other! Although it sounds too good to be true...the fact remains that this testimony is 100% legitimate and I would recommend Alpha Dog's services to ANYONE experiencing behavioral issues with their dog or dogs. We now have pets...not pests! Thank you Max!!! more

High Recommended 2/17/2011

I have been extremely happy with Max's training. Actually I now have a very obedient and HAPPY dog. He is social with other animals and doesn't bite. Max showed me how to train my dog to stay in the yard and go potty on his own and come back to the door. I can even walk him without using a leash and he stays with me. Not every thing worked the first time, so i needed a lot of patience and some of the training was more for me to understand and be consistent!! I don't have to use treats to get my dog to listen. (Although he does enjoy them and I reward him but not every time.)\r I have given Max's name to others and they have thanked me. I think he really understands dogs and people and he wouldn't steer you wrong.\r I think his fees are fair and he didn't charge for phone calls and I made a lot of them. ha ha more

Great Trainer 8/25/2010

I've met a few trainers being in the dog rescue field. Most trainers I've met are the wishy-washy, only positive reinforcement, throw hot dogs at your dog to distract them, type. Some of these trainers seemingly unknowingly actually reinforce the bad behaviors they are trying to get rid of! \r \r First, Max is good people. Max volunteers his time to some rescue groups through a specific program under the Central PA Animal Alliance. \r \r Max came to my house (free of charge through a rescue program) to help with a fearful foster dog that had been returned after being adopted. This foster dog was allowed to hide in a bedroom for the last 2 years, thus ""escaping"" from anything that even remotely scared her. Through basic obedience training and forcing her to deal with her fears instead of allowing her to run away, our foster dog is already showing vast improvements, only 3 days later! \r \r Dogs want to please their owners, their owners just need to know how to effectively tell their dogs what it is they want them to do. Max is a great teacher of this skill. \r \r The only problem is that the people need to stick with the training, and stick to their guns. The people who complain about this type of training typically want some sort of magical fix and complain about the trainer when the owners don't hold up their end of the bargain. more

Absolutely not. 8/16/2009

We had been recommended Alpha Dog for our very high-energy, extremely dominant rescued dog. Max came out and spent 1.5 hours with us, walking our dog, talking to us about what we were and weren't doing wrong. That seems great, doesn't it? In reality, when we'd pass by other dogs that our dog went nuts over, he literally hung our dog by his leash in the air to 'master dominance'. We worked very hard with our dog, following Max's lead for a week - 2 weeks afterward and when we were still consistently having the exact same issues, we called Max to see if he could offer any further assistance. We were told ""Keep working on it - it'll be fine"" and a hang up. We started noticing that our dog's behavior became MUCH worse after Max was here. It took us near 60 days to get him back to where he was prior to Max's ""training"". His methods border on animal cruelty, he has absolutely no follow-up after your first visit, but you can bet he'll quickly charge you the $200 for 1 visit! My tips, now that we have a very well-trained dog? Watch the 'Dog Whisperer', watch ""It's Me or the Dog"", read dog training forums and work diligently with your dog. With patience, time and love - you'll end up with the perfect dog. Pros: Comes to your house Cons: Too rough, charges too much, no follow-up more
