For more than 12 years, the vets at Allen Animal have taken the most excellent, compasionate care for my shelter rescued dog I could ever ask for. The staff was always pleasant, often very busy, but never rude.
Dr. Denise Boland was his primary vet thoughout the years, and patiently understood and accepted his fears and medical issues. He was not a healthy dog, but he was well taken care of by Dr. Boland. She never rushed through our appointments, she listened to my updates and questions and returned every phone call I ever placed to her, and personally called with various test results or follow up statuses. I only wish my medical doctors would give me the time and concern that Dr. Boland provides her patients. Medications were often necessary, but not overly prescribed, neither were expensive tests.
She discussed the various options and helped me through my decision about whether to operate on his cancerous tumor two years ago (which she successfully removed) at the age of 12, and did not push for additional treatments such as radiation or chemo. She saw him right away and tested him thoroughly when I suspected he suffered a mini-stroke or seizure last winter. Last week, at the age of 14+ I suspected that his cancer had returned causing him severe pain. After an exam and through tears in her eyes, she talked to her old friend (knowing that he had been totally deaf for over a year, but thought he should have the dignity of hearing her voice just in case) who was nestled on a quilt on the floor as she gave him the tranquilzer and final shot of his long life. He went to sleep peacefully and left this world in my arms, in a room of people who loved and cared for him. When the time comes in the future for the next stray dog to find their way into my home and heart, I will NEVER hesitate for a moment to take them to Allen Animal Hospital for their care, and Dr. Boland in particular. Thank you all for the excellent care given to my beloved companion.
