I brought my dog to All Star Pet Resort for the first time 2 and 1/2 years ago and was extremely impressed with the facility. It was extremely clean, they fed the dogs a high quality food, the staff was great, they had the web cam & the property was impressive. I felt extremely comfortable leaving our dog in their hands and was very happy with the experience. So naturally when we returned to Atlantic City for our annual trip this year, All Star was my first choice. \r
When we dropped our dog off this time I immediately noticed a difference. Everything looked the same, but the grounds were not as clean, the interior was less clean then the grounds, the food provided was now low grade, there were less staff members & they weren't as helpful. I even remember mentioning to my husband as we pulled away that I thought they might have changed owners. \r
I am not sure what happened to this place over the past few years, but the end result of this last visit was horrific. About 3 days after we picked our dog up she developed a very deep cough that sounded like human bronchitis. It was kennel cough. We had our dog vaccinated for bordetella prior to her stay at the kennel, however our vet told us that the vaccine is like the flu shot and doesn't protect against all strains. At the same time she started developing these large lesions all over her belly and chest, which wound up being a staph infection. I was told that this is a result of filthy conditions in cages. A few days later the staph infection caused secondary infections in her ears & eyes. At the same time the secondary infections started to appear she also became severely itchy and rashes started to develop on certain parts of her body. My vet felt that the itching and rash were due to allergies. For 6 months we treated her for allergies: steroids, steroid creams, antihistamines, sprays etc. Nothing seemed to help and it got so bad that the dog was scratching her fur off. One of her ears was almost completely bald. So finally I told my vet that I felt the cause might be mites instead of allergies, because nothing was working and the itching directly coincided with the stay at the kennel that gave her all these problems. My vet agreed that it was possible and gave her a shot for mites & told me to come back in two weeks for a follow up. Yesterday was my follow up and guess what? It was mites.... i.e. MANGE!\r
Six months & thousands dollars worth of vet bills later our previously 100% healthy two year old dog is on the road to health again. As a fellow business owner, I understand what reviews can do to a business and I really don't like to leave reviews like this, however this is beyond extreme negligence. I can't imagine the conditions my dog was placed in to have had this occur. To summarize, in a 2 night stay at this facility my dog contracted: Kennel Cough, Staph Infection, Secondary Eye & Ear Infections and Mange. As a pet parent & animal lover I can't not say anything. I highly recommend not leaving your pet at this facility.
