I have spent time with the owner on a personal basis, So I had his company come out and look at a problem with my existing gutters on one of my apartment bldgs, the owner stated he would put in service call and clean the problem gutters for around $200, at the same time he would estimate replacement gutters to solve my problems. Once his technician arrived on site(they missed the first appt) he measured the problem gutters and stated the gutters were clean and the problem was the water was going over the gutter and needed replacement. I asked, how much was the replacement going to be.... he said around $1600 but the owner would have to firm up the pricing.... that's great, I accepted the bid and have the owner give me a call and we cen set up start date.... the technician wanted me to write a check for the trouble call for $200, I told the owner that you estimated replacement and cleaned no gutters, I also stated to the owner that I had no problem paying the service call, but if I did, his company would not get the bid for replacement.... so I paid the technician their ransom money for the non---free estimate..... when I talked to the owner I explained to him that I had multiple properties, retail complexes etc.. that I would give him the yearly contract for roof cleaning and moss removal, all he wanted was his $200 for the estimate(so called service call). so he was paid and I told him that his company had poor business practices and I would never do business with his company nor would I recomend any one else to do business with his company.....
