When I visited ASC 2-1/2 years ago, I was so offended by the harsh, loudmouth, power-bitch managers that I vowed never to go back. Since then the management changed for the better. The bar is a little cleaner, there are noticeably fewer professional drunks draped on the bar stools, and it's rare to see an under-aged UNM student with a fake ID. Sadly, they still have drag shows (no, lip synching is not a talent nor fun to watch), but only on Saturday nights so you can avoid it. And you can still smoke, including cigars. The current bartenders are much more friendly, although one or two of the old inhospitable bartenders still work there. It's a pleasant place to hang out. But it still doesn't have a definite personality. There's no theme decor, no gimmick, no unifying style. On a Friday night it almost feels like you crashed a low-budget wedding reception. Of the paltry 3 gay bars in Albuquerque, this is the one where you won't feel ripped off, and you'll actually feel welcomed. So definitely give it a try.
