Too harsh 2/6/2010

Clearly the people here have not run there own business or know much about running a business because the complaints seem to be about service and overpriced games and accessories. well unfortunately thats how todays economy is and you have to really see the ups to it over the downs. for example sure the game are a bit pricey but if you are looking for a game or game system there isnt much better you can go to within alameda. Also with the whole entire lack of service i personally havent had this happen and every time i go in the owner is rather helpful. Todays economy requires things to be at a higher price and makes it harder for people to buy things, so although you may get a bad deal on the game or you may not like the service you get just remember it is a small business and like all businesses they need to make money so naturally like every other business with the economy today everything is going to be a bit boosted in price. Also if you get a defective game you wouldn't be able to return it anywhere without a receipt, why wouldn't you keep a receipt in the first place? So all though many people have issues with the place i gotta say over all it isnt as bad as everyone is making it out to be. but hey it is all an opinion and everyone else will be saying i know nothing of which i am speaking just because they had one bad experience. Pros: Large variety Cons: A bit pricey more

Unreasonable, Over-Priced 12/14/2009

I wish I could swear here. This place is over priced. The people who work here are unreasonable when it comes to deals. DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT SELLING THEM A GAME. If you wanna WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TIME, come here. Pros: The only game store in town that sells old stuff Cons: It is EXTREMELY OVERPRICED more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS 11/28/2008

One might be astounded and delighted to see the vast game and system selection available at Alameda Game Exchange, but I promise you as soon as you ask about prices the magic will vanish quickly. Alameda Game Exchange charges outrageous prices on every last bit of their merchandise. It's mind boggling. Worse than that are the prices offered for exchanging games. For example, I offered three nintendo ds games (EXCELLENT CONDITION), and tony hawk pro skater 2 for ps2 (one of the best games for the system) and I was offered 12 dollars in return. That's practically an insult. They are undoubtedly selling each game now for at least 20 dollars. But perhaps worst of all is the owner and main vendor of Alameda Game Exchange, an uncompromising and rude woman who manipulates and exploits children all in order to make a buck. This sort of establishment should be boycotted. Cons: Prices, service more

Avoid shopping here 9/29/2007

What a joke. The sales person on duty today was unprofessional and not willing to deal with a defective game that I purchased at the store. She was very emphatic about not the ""don't have receipt, no exchange"" issue, even though I insisted that there was not one in the bag when I returned home from the store. The CD was scratched in the package prior to installation. I told her this, but she would budge. I then decided to call the manufacturer, Microsoft, who then told me that I would have to swap out with them instead. How unfortunate that a small business cannot uphold the philosophy of ""pleasing the customer first above all"". I will certainly never recommend this store to anyone EVER. BUYER BEWARE: check your purchases carefully and open up your software at the store before leaving. That way you can show them that you did receive a defective product, and hopefully they'll remember to put the receipt in the bag or better yet, have them HAND you the receipt. Such an unfortunate incident like this has taught me a valuable lesson...that is, don't always buy from a small vendor..unless you know them well. I guess it's back to shopping at the big box stores instead where they DO LISTEN TO THE CUSTOMER. Cons: Poor customer service, parking issues more

Great Selection, Savvy Prices 7/28/2007

For classic games, systems and accessories, this is definitely a place worth checking out, their selection is impressive. That said, they know what everything's worth, so don't go in expecting to find that popular classic item for nothing. But when you're looking for something strange like a Dreamcast rumble pack or a Colecovision controller, and you don't want to hassle with eBay and bloated shipping charges, give these guys a ring, they just might have what you're looking for, and chances are, it'll be cheaper than finding it online. more
