I recently moved from Charleston, SC to Columbia, SC. I have a cat that needed blood pressure medicine that had to be compounded into a liquid form for her weight. Because of her digestive system, the medication had to be water based rather than oil based. Having been on this medication for one year and after trying numerous ""flavors,"" my cat would only tolerate the ""triple fish"" flavored medicine. Upon moving to Columbia, I was only aware of two compounding pharmacies - Hawthorne and Longs. I personally went into both pharmacies and was told that the pharmacists there would only make it in an oil base and would only use the existing flavors that it had. They were not only not very pleasant but also, were completely opposed to using my pharmacist's ""recipe"" in Charleston (even with the backup data to show that the medication would be stable in a water based solution). Their prices were also outrageous - my recollection was that it was $80.00 per prescription. Someone told me about Airport Pharmacy. When I called, the Airport pharmacists and staff were extremely patient and friendly. They actually seemed to care and wanted to help. Even though Airport Pharmacy made the same medication in an oil base and did not have the flavoring that my cat preferred, the Airport pharmacists were willing to contact my pharmacy in Charleston to get the water based compounding ""recipe"" and specially flavored oils that my pet prefers. They have been filling that prescription for six months at half the price that the other Columbia compounding pharmacies charge (and about what I was paying in Charleston). While Airport Pharmacy is not the closest compounding pharmacy to my home or place of employment, it is worth the extra few miles for the trip and I believe this to be the case whether one is filling medications for him or herself or for a pet. The pharmacists and staff were equally as friendly and helpful in the store. They packed the medication with an ice pack so it would stay cool until I could get home and refrigerate it. Yesterday, I had a question about the medication. The pharmacist returned my call after hours and actually left his personal cell phone number for me to call with any questions as he had been busy yesterday and was going to be out of the pharmacy today. Airport Pharmacy epitomizes and exemplifies wonderful customer service. Their pharmacists and staff are committed to helping their customers and go out of their way to do so. Even thought it is a smaller pharmacy, their prices are far more competitive than some of the larger ones. I highly recommend that people consider using Airport Pharmacy when they need their prescriptions filled.
