As a trainer and dog lover myself, I believe that the most common issues that pet owners encounter, stem from confusion: the confusion that arises when you combine two different species in one household. Dogs arent people and people arent dogs, and each has their own individual and essential way of viewing the world. As a trainer, my goal is to teach people a better understanding of these differences in perspective, and to develop a line of communication that both can clearly and easily understand. In doing so, I strive to connect people with their pets, and to create a harmonious living situation that will satisfy the needs of both.
Good training is the careful blending of science and art. Behavioral science provides us with mountains of information to work with. Our dogs provide us information as well, and the "art" is in reading our dogs, and adapting what we know to what we learn from them. It is this art that I attempt to impart to my human clients. Providing them with a better understanding of their dogs, along with proven methods and techniques shaping their dog's desirable behaviors and changing their problematic behavior, allows them to build the best possible relationship with their canine friends.
. There are a variety of training options to choose from:- Private,in-home dog behavior instruction for behavior modification, manners, and beginning and advanced obedience training (on and off leash.)
- Day training - trainer works to impart obedience skills and more to dog or puppy, and then schedules time with you to review progress and learn cueing and protocols.
- Special puppy kindergarten programs.
- New dog introduction and training programs.
- Pre-adoption counseling services for dogs, cats, and other exotic animals.
- Puppy selection services. (may include trainer on-site evaluation and selection advice.)
- Pre-adoption counseling for is free to anyone adopting from an animal shelter or 501c3 rescue.)
I use a combination of reward-based,positive reinforcement techniques, with sound management strategies,to build on the behavior owners want from their dogs. Training is also relationship based, and designed to build trust and teamwork. I use proven methods with produce consistent results.
