It's never good when you have to call an exterminator, but Pestec made it pretty painless. I had returned from a trip to NYC, and saw a few bedbugs in a hotel room I stayed in for a night. After reading up on these little monsters, I was concerned that I had brought a few home. I had also seen some small bites on my arms. I called Pestec to find out if there's some way to check for bedbugs early - before full-blown infestation. I left a message, and it took a few days to hear back from them, but they were very polite and professional when we did talk. They said they had experience finding and treating for bedbugs, and suggested their bedbug-sniffing dog. Seriously, they have a beagle that's been trained to detect bedbugs. I did a little research, and apparently bedbugs do have a detectable odor, and some pest control companies are training dogs to find them. Their handler brought the dog (a beagle) to my house a few weeks later, and it took about 20 minutes for them to walk through. They didn't find anything. That was a few weeks ago, and I've seen no sign of bedbugs. I realize it's hard to prove the dog's ability (easier when something's found than when it isn't), but I found the company to be very credible and have no reason to doubt them (or the dog). It put my mind at ease, and was worth every penny. (My bites turned out to be from mosquitoes.)
