Marty (?) came to see the house and give us an estimate for replacing windows & a couple dry-rotted sills. The price was reasonable and he was very friendly and professional, seemed very knowledgeable. I don't remember how it came up but possibly my partner just asked - we have 4 cats who are all strictly indoor cats, so it's something we have to take into consideration when we have people creating big holes in the walls. Anyway, Marty told us it wouldn't be a problem and "It's not like they'll have all the windows out at the same time."
Okay. But when workers showed up, Marty wasn't one of them, and their plan was basically to take out all the windows at the same time. Yikes. So, we had to figure out a plan. But the lead worker was just plain rude about the cats, made several offhand but pointed comments and suggested on his way out the door when the work was finished that I should get rid of them.
Now I understand not everybody likes cats, that's fine. But when someone's paying you to work for them, that's not generally the time you just volunteer your opinion that what they like is stupid. Especially when someone from the company had been at the house, had seen the cats, had assured us it would not be a problem - maybe the estimator needed to communicate with the lead man that there were cats on the premises, maybe he needed to assign a different lead man if that person is incapable of ignoring his hate for cats.
So, the work was decent enough, I have no complaints about the price, the windows themselves, or the installation. But I like people to treat me well, with respect. We actually only replaced half the windows that first sweep; I don't know that we'll be coming back here for the rest of the windows.
