Adventureland Amusement Park 8/18/2005

Adventureland, located just outside Des Moines in Altoona, Iowa, lacks the flash and exotic rides of Six Flags, but has drastically improved and expanded over the past five years beyond the old favorite rides of the Tornado roller coaster and the Raging River. New rides recently opened are the Sidewinder, a gigantic pendulum, and Saw Mill Splash, a water ride. Even on rainy days, there are lots of shows to enjoy. Nearby Adventureland Inn and Campground provide convenient and economical options for lodging without having to drive back to Des Moines (and pricier hotels) at night. more

Adventureland...a lot of walking.....and fun for the kids 8/17/2005

Now I am not a huge fan of ADVENTURELAND mostly because I have been spoliled by larger amusement parks but also partly because I don't rememebr this park changing much in the past 20 years. I can remember the little stores and many of the rides from when I first visited this park with a friend 2 decades ago. Even then the rides seemed to be a bit worn out and aged.....now they are only more so. Now don't get me wrong, it is a lot of fun for kids but considering the price you pay here, I don't think we will be repeating a visit anytime soon....even with the cost of gas so high, it is a better deal to head towards one of the larger amusement parks.....the exactprice eludes me at the moment but I do recall a friend saying her family spent less than $10 more a person when they went to 6 flags and I KNOW our cost as a family was about the same at SILVER DOLLAR CITY and we enjoyed the theme park there much more. Decide for yourself though....far be it for me to tell you how to spend your money but consider this.....check out 2 or 3 amusement parks on a website and THEN decide.......I think you will see my point. more

Iowa's only amusement park 8/12/2005

Adventureland is a great place to take the family for a fun day out. There are a lot of great rides for the whole family. My children loved the Saw Mill Splash & the Raging River. There are several small shows that go on during the day that are free to watch. Tickets are $27 per adult or $23 if purchased online. They have a season pass available for only $80 that is a great option for those who live closer than I do. more

great amusement for all 7/31/2005

this is an average sized amusement park. it has a great selection of the large rides and roller coasters to choose from. there is also plenty of good food, games to play and also water rides are available. on the really hot days you can choose to ride one of the water rides to get cooled down a little. parking is very easy at this park and its not a very long walk to the front gate to get in. the whole family will have a fun day all around without spending a fortune. more

Iowa's only Amusement Park 7/31/2005

Adventureland is located in Altoona which is by Des Moines, Iowa. It is the only large Amusement Park in Iowa. It is great! They have several large roller coasters and a water flume ride. They also have small rides for younger children. I especially like to see the Chinese acrobats perform at the theater. Usually you can find coupons for a discount on admission. more

Great theme park for Iowa 7/22/2005

Adventureland is a great family theme park. Lots of great rides and rollercoasters. I recommend that you pack a lunch. Most of the food is expensive. The lines can be really short off season. I was able to ride a roller coaster non stop a few times in a row once. It was a blast. As long as your not expecting something like Six Flags, Adventureland is a good deal. more

Family fun 7/17/2005

This amusement park is centrally located in Iowa. There are lots of rides for everyone in all age groups. The log ride and raging river are always a hit. Expect a long line on hot days and weekends. The food costs quite a bit and is not all that great. I recommend bringing your own for a picnic outside the park later. more

Local Amusement 7/12/2005

Only takes just under two hours from Cedar Rapids to reach this location. Be sure to consult their website for black out dates. You can find discount coupons for tickets at local grocery stores and gas stations. It doesn’t hurt to pick these up. The cost of tickets can add up fast. To make the most of it, arrive early. We pack lunch in a cooler to leave in the vehicle. Then we return to it at lunchtime to eat and take a break before hitting the rides again. The cost of food is pricey in the park. http://www.adventureland-usa.com/ more
