Back Facts:
A five year U.S. Government study conducted by the University of Washington School of Medicine and Public Health determined that traditional methods for treating back pain were ineffective, including extended bed rest, traction, corsets and medications. the study also determined that surgery for back pain was "almost never effective and appears to be overused."
Dr. Paul G. Shekelle (internist) headed a panel of medical chiropractic professionals for the Rand Report. He concluded that there was strong evidence for the use of spinal adjustment as a form of treatment for low back pain and the spinal adjustment is more effective than many other medical therapies currently used.
