best casual and comfortable place around!! 8/6/2011

I love this place!. It is casual and colorfully decorated. The seating is comfortable especially if you like booths. But listen, the food is fantastic. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a pleasant hostess and immediately seated. We were brought chips and salsa that was so delicious and spicy hot! We then had our waitress arrive minutes later and explained all the specials including a lentl soup . She took our order for drinks and didnt rush us or pressure us in ordering the entree. When we decided on our meal she immediately came over and took the order.I got the chicken fajitas and my wife got chicken quesidillas. We were brought our meals so quickly! My fajitas were in an iron dish with black beans green peppers and onions and a plethora of grilled chicken slices. I had a side dish of guacamole, sour cream, salsa, cheese, and lettuce then i had a plate of hot tortillas wrapped in a napkin. This was a fun and delicious meal. The service was great! The attentiveness was so responsive. The atmosphere was fun and casual. The check even after ordering two drinks was soooooooo reasonable. I will return here time and time again. Great place! more

OMG!!!!! 10/22/2010

OMG! The food was terrible. We traveled to Philly today to have lunch at Adobe Cafe after seeing it listed on a news website. The waitress was pleasant and she recommended what she said were her favorite selections for me and my husband. Firstly, when he received his beverage the inside of the glass was dirty with food that had caked on the glass. UGH! Secondly, the food was hot but tasteless. My husband said his Fajita tasted awful as well. He could not finish it. I had the crab cakes which was missing the crab which had been substituted with bread crumbs. My sides with the entree were just as awful. The best thing about the experience were the nachos they placed on the table. Don't waste your time or money on the food. Sorry! more

Muy Horrible 4/18/2010

Adobe Caf?, We recently partook in the takeout experience of Adobe Caf?. I thought it may be therapeutic for us and posed the minimal chance of you capitalizing on our feedback to improve; though realistically, your service and product will remain unchanged. For starters, we placed our order and were told 20 minutes. Considering the size of the order, we were pleasantly surprised at the response that it would take such a short period of time to prepare 8 items. However, when we showed up to ?take out? our order the wait continued for another 15 minutes. This resulted in a grand total wait time of 40 minutes in all from the conclusion of placing our order to completion of the transaction. I realize that 40 minute is more realistic expectation for an order of our size and you may as well. It would be nice if the person receiving our order had been so astute as to not waste our time standing and waiting in your establishment. These large containers the dinner comes in gives the initial impression that you are receiving your money?s worth; however, upon removal of the lid you will realize the first of many disappointing revelations about the Adobe Caf??s invention. I use ?invention? because I consider this is to be the first instance anyone has ever intentionally created such a poor meal, other than as a practical joke. After the initial reaction of disappointment we experienced, it was soon followed with regret. As we delved into our purchases, some were unsure if we had received another person?s order. Tilapia Fish Tacos were little more than cheese with mashed fried tilapia, with an odd inconsistency of crunchy and soft. It is unclear if there was an actual taste to these things because of the overwhelming sense of sadness they emoted. One member of our party thought to herself ?Don?t worry, you only paid $15 for these?. I do not think these words served as any real comfort to her. The vegetables were limp and flat, while managing to lack any remnant of flavor they may have once had. Considering they make up 30% of the overall substance of a meal that cost an exorbitant amount of money, we were expecting it to serve as the rock-bottom, stoop no lower, base of this experience. Instead, it served only as a nail in the coffin to this disastrous dinner. Vegetables? anyone who manages to serve these in a sub-mediocre fashion must have done so as an attempt to mock the customer. The Quesadillas may have been an accident by your cook(s). Perhaps they forgot to put in more than a sprinkling of cheese and chicken, after all, they may not realize that someone is paying $8 for just tortilla shells when they are absent of these defining ingredients. The other item that failed to meet the qualifications the menu set so high in its item description was the Bean and Cheese Burrito, since it lacked cheese, and only contained beans and rice. As some of us have decided to muster through our disappointment and the hot sauce we have doused our meals in for some semblance of flavor, we will now begin scrounging for a source of satisfaction to our hunger somewhere else. One thing is for sure, from this point on we have vowed to never ever, ever promote or patronize your establishment again. Thank you for making this decision easy, although the lesson was painful and costly. P.S. This whole debacle may be our fault since we did not request our order extra plumpy. Pros: I didnt die. Cons: Everything more

HORRIBLE!!!!! Will NEVER go back! 10/25/2009

The only reason that this place received one star is because the website required a rating. Otherwise this would have received a ZERO!!!!! NEVER plan a party here! The owner backtracked on our original price during the party and accused me of making him lose money. The food was ATROCIOUS! I was embarrassed that I had chosen this as the place for a party! Adobe Cafe will NEVER get my business again! Pros: nothing Cons: The food was HORRIBLE! The owner was RUDE! more

My favorite! 7/18/2009

The texas ranchero seitan wings are TO DIE FOR. I have obsessive thoughts about them. and their margaritas are phenomenal. Try the Mango margaritas. My husband and I are vegetarians and love the selection, and we brought both of our families here for my birthday and EVERYONE was raving! more

OMG don't go 6/6/2009

The Adobe is horrible, it was dark and dingy, the ceiling was falling down in the bar area, the waiting area and the bar area were dirty, there were flies along with other insects flying around from the side door being open. It was dark and I felt like they were trying to hide something. They had two televisions on one you couldn't get a clear picture and the other one was so small from the end of the bar you couldn't tell what inning the Phils were in. The margarita's were weak and not tasty at all. I will never go back and spend my hard working money there. Pros: nothing at all Cons: everything more

somebody call gordon ramsey 9/26/2008

some friends recommended adobe cafe, so i went on line and read the reveiws. some were good but at least half were bad. i wanted to try it for myself. i walked in and the place looked cute, beautiful patio area. there was alot of atomosphere and alot of atifacts on the wall, including mexican or southwestern rugs( that when you look at the tags on the back they say IKEA). the mojitos where great!! i ordered the taco salad with shredded chicken. when it came to the table, the etible bowl looked good but the shredded chicken was unrecognizable. at first i didnt know what it was.(mush). the flavor was ok. my partner matt ordered the carne asada and said that the meat was tender and delicious. so all and all it was just average, although the service was great!! somebody should call gordon ramsey, because the place needs help with the food, could be great but its more like taco bell. more

No 8/23/2008

I saw two oter really positive reviews from Texas transplants....I have either been ordering the wrong thing or the Texans are imposters. First of all, the food is not Mexican. I've seen other reviewers call it ""southwestern""... ok, fine. The chicken tacos are lousy. I think the shredded chicken is put in a food processor and mixed with tomatillos and something else. The texture is like a paste. Weird- tasting chicken paste. The refried beans look and taste like they are from a can. The rice too, had a weird flavor. Another occasion I ordered an entree of seared chicken with goat cheese and some other stuff. I thought the goat cheese was an unusual flavor match with Southwest spices, but I wanted to give it a try. I did and it was bad. Pros: Nice patio for drinks Cons: Food more

NOT Mexican but so worth it! 7/21/2008

i love this place because of its ambiance and delicious SOUTHWESTERN food! the waitstaff couldnt be any nicer. it' a reasonably priced restaurant with great food, drinks, atmosphere, and people!! go there and check out what i'm talking about...you'll have a great time. more

Terrific Southwestern food - friendly wait staff 5/27/2008

We love this place! My husband and I enjoy whatever we order. It's always good. But I must clarify something another post said - this is NOT a Mexican restaurant. It is proudly SouthWestern style and the food is fresh! My 80-y.o. Mother loves coming here - they are always extra friendly and solicitous with her. We've brought theater parties here, celebrated birthdays here...you name it! Although this place is huge, the dining rooms are small and feel cozy and private. Also, the patio is awesome, especially considering Adobe is right in the middle of a residential neighborhood! Highly recommend to anyone interested in experiencing Southwestern cuisine and a fun and friendly environment! Pros: Thumbs up! Great food, friendly service and plenty of parking, too! Cons: None that I can think of. more

Extremely overrated 5/19/2008

I don't understand how this place gets so many good reviews. The food at Adobe is simply bad. The Mexican rice that comes with an entree is simply terrible, it had no flavor at all. I the carnitas tacos and ended up getting tacos filled with mush. Canitas should be chunks of pork, not mush. I think that this place gets so many good reviews simply because of the fact that Roxborough and Philadelphia in general really lack in the Mexican restaurant category. Most people who have had real and authentic Mexican would stay far away from this place. In order to get good Mexican, you have to travel out into the burbs. Pros: Good place for drinks Cons: Bad food more

Excellent food and atmosphere! 5/2/2008

We loved this restaurant! The atmsophere was VERY fun, especially in the spring and summer when you can sit on the patio! more

A nice surprise in Roxborough 4/12/2008

We've lived in nearby Mt Airy/Germantown for years and hadn't heard of this place until recently, so it was a surprise to find a pleasant little Mexican/Southwestern restaurant with drinks and a nice outdoor patio. Coming from Texas, I miss good Tex-Mex so my expectations weren't very high; but if you remember this is Roxborough, you'll find it a refreshing, relaxed change from cheesesteak land and the trendy crowds in Manayunk. Tucked away just below the main strip of Roxborough with ample parking in a nearby lot, we found the place inviting and the staff very accommodating--also for 3 year olds. The food was okay, some things were quite good, and in general a step up from generic Mex food that is typically found in the Northeast. The chips and salsa (a fresh, rich chilpotle mix) were very good; the guacamole was terrible to me but most locals would probably think it's fine. The chicken soft tacos and tilapia tacos were tasty but kind of like casserole in a tortilla--very heavy and cheesy. The crispy beef tacos were essentially deep-fried beef flautas, not the crispy beef tacos you'd find in most places. The chicken mole enchiladas were very good, as were the beef tamales. I tried a margarita and sangria, and both were okay but not especially good. Again, remember where you are and adjust your expectations--sample different things and find what you like. It was fun. Pros: One of the best-kept secrets in NW Philly: casual outdoor patio makes you feel you're downtown Cons: Some dishes are very good, many others are only okay more

bad, unauthentic mexican food 4/4/2008

1 of the worst dining experineces I've had in a long time. The food was cold, obviously heated up in the microwave or scorched under a heat lamp. Dry, hard rice, sauce tasted like it came from a can. Worst margarita I've ever had. My meal was ok, but my boyfriend only had a few bites before sending back the plate. We explained that it was cold. The waitress said ""ok"" and took away the plate without asking if she could get him something else to eat. Came back 20 minutes later and said the manager was giving us 50% off. I figured she meant 50% off of the entire bill...not so much. They charged us for half the price of the meal that my boyfriend ate none of. I spoke to the manager and she accused us of lying. She said that my boyfriend ate ""most"" of his meal. I tried to explain to her that he really only had 2 bites. She rudely cut us both off, but did remove the meal from our bill. Overall, it was very disappointing. I have eaten there before and the food and service was fine. This time however, was awful. I will never eat there again and I encourage anyone else to stay away also. Cons: Terrible service. Bad food more

Magic Patio...Very Romantic!! 7/20/2007

The patio seeting is extremely romantic. My boyfriend and I had our frist date and first kiss on that patio. He told me that I was looking very kissable. We ate, drank and talked for hours, actually until they closed. The food is always amazing, the service is always exceptional. The rest of the resturaunt feels very south western and is excellent for family dining. My parents love to eat here when visiting me in Philadelphia. First date?....The patio is magic....I have never been more in love. Pros: Ambience, romance factor, service, Tequilla more

Fun Family Neighborhood Joint 10/19/2005

My wife and I discovered this place while walking around the neighborhood one day. Great food, Great Drinks, and really fun ambience. The experience starts out great with the homemade salsa, and the food is wonderful, with excellent portion sizes. The Taco salad, although slated as an app, makes an excellent full meal when you add the ground beef. In the summer, fall, and spring the oudoor patio is a great place to sit nd sip marguaritas. Pros: Patio, Ambience, Food Cons: Location, Parking more

One of Roxborough's Gems 8/13/2005

Decent place. The staff was very friendly. The food was good. Price was about what you'd expect: no better or worse then your average national bistro-type chain. Let's put it this way: Relative to most Roxborough establishments it was excellent; Relative to every eatery in the country: It wasn't a dump. Mostly likely, we will return. Our only major complaint was that the entrees took a noticeably long time to arrive at our table after ordering. We were having a good time with our company so it wasn't too bad for us. If you're going out with someone you don't particularly like, you might want to go some place else. We went on a Saturday night around 8:30PM. Overall, I was surprised with the quality of the place. Not bad. The entrance gift shop is a nice touch, even though there really wasn't much of interest to purchase. Pros: Very Nice Staff, Big Menu, Unique to area Cons: Long wait for food, Not good for smokers more
