Horrible Experience 9/12/2009

We brought our eight year old dog to Adobe's emergency hospital with breathing difficulty. He spent five days there, each day with an "improving" diagnosis. The evening before he died there, the vet said he has really improved and his vital signs look great. To us he looked almost comatose, poor thing. They led us on this horrible five day path of poor judgement and misinformation. Having a different vet looking after him each day wasn't good either. $8,100.00 was our bill! And for a dead dog. Adobe has 24 vets, all part-time and many unqualified. They encouraged cremation right after his death and I had regretfully agreed. That made it impossible to have an independent autopsy performed and no way for a lawsuit. My friend's retriever's gut split open at a poorly sutured spaying shortly after bringing her home and they wanted to charge her to fix the problem that was their fault! My new puppies go to Dr. Natt at Serra Vet Hospital on Fremont Ave in Sunnyvale. I have nothing but pr more

Adobe Animal Hospital Has Changed for the Worse!!! 7/22/2009

We had gone to Adobe Animal Hospital during the era of Dr. Berg. Once Dr. Berg retired things really changed!! They are simply a money-making operation now and the personal touch is gone. It is kind of like a vetinary factory now. more

Adobe Animal Hospital is not where you want to go 6/16/2009

Adobe Animal Hospital is the worst, they worked us for every buck they could get, (with no help for the dog) and when they sensed that we where out of money (-$2500) they pulled a dump and run. \r leaving me and my pet to start the process all over\r this is a terrible place for pets and their owners alike more

We used to love them 3/26/2009

I have cats. Way back when, they really were great, but the last few years, not so much. I had an appointment on a week day, during the day. When I got there they said I didn't but they would get me in. I waited an hour. Then just before I went back they told me they had decided not to charge me the emergency price. What!? There reception person was the one who made the mistake! \r \r So we go back and they look over my poor cat. The Vet grabs a swab from her ears and leaves to do some test. Turns out it was test they did six months ago. It would have been almost impossible for an indoor-only cat to get ear mites in six months. They charged me 27 bucks for no reason. They forgot to clip her nails and the vet left without saying goodbye, or letting me ask questions. I sat for ten mins before a tech asked if I needed help getting out. I didn't know I was done! I went to pay then found out about what test it was and how much they charged me. My furballs deserve better! more

THEY'RE NOT WHAT THEY USED TO BE 3/26/2009

I've been a client at Adobe since 1982, and when I first started taking my dogs there, it was a fantastic place and one I could count on for top notch care. Over the past year or so, I've seen a big change here, since I would say it was purchased by four of the practicing 'Vets there. It appears to me that the vets there are trained to get as much money out each client as possible. For example, I took my twelve year old terrier in two months ago as he had stopped eating the previous day, and was told to leave him, the projected cost would be between six hundred and nine hundred dollars, the lower price if no complications. After i left him on a Friday, i found out another vet would be taking over Saturday, which is the day I picked him up. Initially, I was told they had ruled out a number of things, and it appeared to be a urinary tract infection, and sent him home with meds. The total cost was $1006.00. What the hell? For a urinary tract infection? Also I noticed they gave him two inj more

I love Dr Roos and Adobe 12/2/2008

I have had many animals and have gone to many clinics including UC Davis. This is the best experience that I have EVER had. Dr, Roos treated an ear infection on my Golden AND my German Shepard. After I took my German Shepard to 3 different vets (all with over 400 dollar price tags) Dr. Roos quickly cleared up the problem. With my Golden, expensive hip surgery was recommended by one vet and Dr. Roos took a great deal of time, diagnosed properly and did a elbow surgery that was reasonable and competent. He still calls us periodically to check on the dogs. I didnt have the experience that others described with hihg bills. With 3 dogs, he doesnt charge us for each office visit when I bring more than one and he is careful about saving us money. He is a fanatic about keeping your dog slender (for good reason) and helps you make good diet regimens based on your dog. Go, you really won't be disappointed. more

Adobe great...Jane Johnson great vet! 10/16/2008

I have had pets for decades, parrots, chameleons, geckos, fish, snakes, a cat and several dogs. I have also participated in rescue for pure breeds. Jane has always been a great hands on vet. Their prices are reasonable in comparison to other vets and I have checked. She cares about the pet and their quality of life, unfortunately I haven't come across that many time in my lifetime. Jane is a jewel and I dread the day she retires. We lost our Newf to kidney failure last Christmas (we knew it was going to happen fast when it did) they were thoughtful and respected what we had to say and what was best for our beloved pet you cannot ask for much more. more

Avoid at all costs 9/22/2008

I was incredibly shocked and dismayed by my experience at Adobe in general, and especially with Dr. Jane Johnson. During a physical, she did a blood panel for our cat. She called us about the results, but neglected to inform us that our cat's blood glucose level was 438 mg/dl (I am reading that number straight off the report we later received!). Note, this was a "fasting" blood panel, and our cat had never had a blood glucose level higher than 150 in the past(The normal range for blood glucose is 70-140 mg/dl in a cat). She also did not mention that his blood urea nitrogen was 75 mg/dl. I simply cannot believe someone who is an experienced medical professional would fail to even mention these extreme outlier results. We had no idea our cat had diabetes and she didn't even mention the possibility of it!! To me, that is negligence. We only found out just how extreme his blood values were when we requested copies of the blood test a week later. All she told us over the phone was more

I found Adobe too late 8/11/2008

Thank you, Adobe. I have never before been faced with the task of euthanizing (how is this spelled?) a dying pet, but you helped me through this process with sympathy, respect, tact, and clear and helpful information. Thank you for helping me and Gwen through this painful process. Being able to sit with Gwen in the "Good-bye Room" was especially valuable. I feel that she was accorded the best death possible. more

Adobe, blah! 6/9/2008

With all the good reviews written, I felt the need to write my own. Adobe is horrible with more uncommon animals (parrots, rabbits, reptiles, etc.) and I believe that all those people who disagree with me have never really been there before. Adobe = bad. more

Recommended by other vet hospitals, but not by themselves... 5/2/2008

I have a sick goat in Cupertino. I call animal hospitals for help, and several refer me to Adobe Animal Hospital in Los Altos as my best bet. I call and am told by pharmacy staff that their vets don't see livestock. I am perplexed. I call some other vets, who again refer me to Adobe. I call back and get someone else who says they currently have doctors on duty who see goats. Since they have no appointments today, I can bring my goat in for an emergency visit. Alarm bells. Not sure what to do, whom to trust.\r \r I have since heard some horror stories that are not my place to repeat, about mistakes made with goats and other animals, unexpectedly high prices of treatment, and given the quality of my telephonic interchanges, I have not much inclination to actually trust them with one of my animals. more

Not a big fan when it comes to rabbits... 11/15/2007

I brought our rabbit in after she was paralyzed. No one really seemed to know why it happened, and there were certainly no rabbit experts there. We ended up driving her to Oakland VCA (GREAT place by the way). I don't know how great Adobe is with dogs and cats, but definitely not exotics or small animals.... more

Great vet hospital 8/21/2007

I've taken my cats to Adobe for more than 7 years and they helped me through the deaths of both of them within a 10-day period last winter (one from kidney failure and one from cancer). If you have animals who are older or chronically ill, it's wonderful to have all of their records available day or night to whomever is on duty. And it's very reassuring that there IS always someone on duty there. One of my cats was hospitalized twice there during his life and he received excellent care in their intensive care ward, where I was able to visit him. No, it wasn't cheap, but I don't think it would have been any less anywhere else. If you want to take the best care of your sick pets that you can, it will never be cheap. The prescription costs have been much lower there than they were at my local vet (Adobe is half an hour away from where I live) and they have always seemed eager to help me save money, when possible. It just isn't always possible, when they need to do tests to try to figu more

Adobe vets have quarterly $$ goals 8/14/2007

Went there for many years, until they nearly killed my dog by giving her a medication known NEVER to be given to a dog with a heart murmur, which the vet joyfully announced prior to injecting her w/the drug. The dog (and possibly the vet, based on her inaccuracy) was comatose for 6 hours, and they said "just get her out in the parking lot and she'll be able to walk." Next day I contacted UC Davis, and they said they would NEVER use this drug on a dog with a heart murmur, period. \r \r So many bad experiences - plus they do not have a SINGLE BOARD CERTIFIED surgeon on their staff of over 25 vets. That's a bit odd - many of them say they "specialize" in x, y, and z, but there are no board certified specialists or surgeons. \r \r I suggest Sequoia Veterinary Hospital in Redwood City - excellent vets, board certified internist, and actual care past the quarterly $$ goal.... more

Very unhappy 7/23/2007

For the last few years, I have been taking all my pets to Adobe. They used to be fabulous, and many of the vets are still excellent. However, some of the front staff and some technicians leave a lot to be desired. They are rude and condescending. When a customer calls to complain about the treatment they have received from the staff, they are aggressive and insulting, and side completely with the employee. \r \r My pet was diagnosed with cancer, and she had surgery and other procedures. I was extremely frustrated as I could not get anyone to speak to about the diagnosis, ask questions, or get information about the results of subsequent tests. How strange is it that I would want to ask questions about my pet's condition in these circumstaces? The vets and technicians at Adobe now return all calls within a narrow time window - between 6:00 and 7:00pm, which meant that I was playing "phone tag", and could not physically speak to anyone. I needed to make decisions about my pet's life and t more

Beware! 7/11/2007

My cat died after bringing him here. The doctor couldn't wait to give him anesthesia because she didn't have a clue how to treat/diagnose him. He was returned to me in a vegetative state and subsequently died. I incurred costs exceeding $5,000.00. Apparently, these vets are protected by the courts and our only recourse as consumers is small claims court. Don't take your animals here! more

Went once and have never been back! 5/23/2007

With all of the positive feedback I felt compelled to register with insiderpages just to let folks know it's not all roses at Adobe. I took a feral kitten to Adobe several years ago that was anemic and full of flees. The kitten was whisked away and it seemed to me all they cared about was what they could nail me for cost wise. They just took the kitten and did whatever they were going to do, without consulting me, and I was left in the lobby (to worry about the kitten)! I had to hassle the girl at the front desk to find out what in the heck was going on. I didn't like the way the kitten was handled at all (brought back to me sopping wet about the head and looking quite terrified) and the gal they had working the front counter at that time was rude and seemed pretty cold towards animals for somebody who CHOSE to work at a vet's office. Trust me, I'm not hard to please but I was left with the distinct feeling that it was all about making a buck at Adobe and not at all about truly h more

Pets are a luxury at Adobe...so bring extra cash 5/12/2007

After five years, I'm finally giving up on Adobe Animal Hospital. As the other reviewers point out, this place is expensive. I took my dog in for a physical today and when I went to pay the bill it was $183! On the invoice was a $26 charge for an anal gland expression, which is normally included as part of a physical. When I asked the receptionist about this, she declared in a very condescending voice, "Well, pets are a luxury!" (By the way, groomers typically charge about $4 for this).\r \r When I first started using Adobe five years ago, I alway felt good about the vets and didn't mind paying the extra money, but over the last year, I've had too many bad experiences and astronomical bills. I feel like they rush through appointments and run up a bill without informing you of the expenses and options.\r \r I took my 12-year old dog in today for a physical with Denise Johnson. She did a whirlwind body check and seemed annoyed when I wanted to ask her questions. My dog lost one eye t more

Hard to beat 5/14/2006

I love this place--have been going there for years. I have always gotten very good, attentive service. The people there seem to be very caring and were very kind when I had to put my cat down. I love the fact that they are open 24 hours, so I could call for advice when my dog had a siezure at 5 a.m., or when I discovered my cat had an abcess one Memorial Day. It is always easy to get an appointment, but can be a bit of a madhouse when they are busy. I have been kept waiting in the treatment room for very long periods of time, which can be exasperating when you are cooped up with an anxious animal. PROS: Well equipped hospital/pharmacy, open 24/7, easy to get in CONS: Can get very busy with long waits possible more
