Ace Hardware Alameda Station

well...ace spends a great deal of time claiming they are the ""speciality"" hardware store that offer personal service and knowledgeable staff...that may be so, but not here...yes, they have a fair amount of speciality stuff but regular stuff is dismal...i have been there three times looking for something and ended up at home depot where i found it..and it is stuff they shud have had...copper pipe reducer, plumbing hoses, screws...i just took them a screen to redo, in metal. the first job took a week and was terrible, loose, the rubber retainer wasn't secure in a bunch of places. took it back, second time was ok, but not nearly as good a my regular, expensive shop. plus, they told me they didn't do on site, then the second time said they do but screener is only in on weds...and, kinda copped an attitude when i wanted it resdone (really, it was bad job, i'm not that picky)...so, am done shopping there...will stick to the big box...sorry ace... more

At 3:15 - 3:30 had called and checked on threaded pipes & pipe clamps. Talked to a person named Ian. Was helpful (the only reason they got 1 star). When I showed up I told the cashier who I had spoken with and what I had wanted. The skinny Brunette with very short hair told me he had left. This associate also stated, ""Go back to a certain aisle and an associate will be right with you."" Waited almost 10 minutes. When NO ONE approached and I started looking around I saw a sales associate that was a skinny white male with a Capt. Pickard bald look, he was standing in an aisle drinking a bottle of Coke and reading a magazine. When I asked for assistance , he got very annoyed. I had to find the extra threaded pipe on my own and when I told him I needed additional clamps he lead me to the aisle and then stated they didn't have any in my diameteter. I immediately pulled a set from the wall display and asked him what this was. He got very red of face then apologized for not knowing what he was doing. At this point , when I asked for extra 4' lenghths of pipe he said, I don't know how to do that. I came to the conclusion I was wasting my time and theirs....should have read the reviews. What a crappy business. The sooner LOEW'S drives them out of business the better. Pros: Can't possibly go any lower. Cons: No help from the staff more

On 26 April 2009 I went to Ace with flyer in hand for their 3 day sale. Both myself and a friend wanted to buy a wheel barrow each for our spring yard work. On the front page of the flyer it clearly shows a green wheel barrow and next to it it shows the caption buy any garden tool under $30.00 get the second one half price.\r I asked the gentleman standing at the front of the store where the wheel barrows were that met that criteria. He clearly stated that do not have any and the least expensive one was $49.00 and would not be considered part of the sale. I asked him if he didn't find this deceptive showing a picture of an item that they don't consider part of the sale. He stated we are just trying to get people into the store. (In New York this would be considered false advertising. A bait and switch tactic is what some people might find this.)\r I have done a fair amount purchasing at this store since moving here last year. I like to support smaller businesses. The salesman/clerk took the flyer from my hand and at this time I told my friend I was leaving. We just got back from Home Depot I purchased everything I needed for my gardens and yard work. I don't know what she spent but I spent almost $210. Ace do you think being deceptive is increasing your sales? I won't be back. Pros: Convienant location Cons: Higher Prices, Sales staff that don't always tell the truth. more
