Ace Discount Glass & Doors

BEWARE of this shop. They rip you off. I am refurbishing a nice frame that I found at a garage sale. The previous owner painted the frame w/glass on it, and it was all stuck together. I took it to Lowe's for new glass as the pane broke in the commute (jagged pieces around corners). They measured/cut the glass, but didn't fit it into the frame as neither of us had gloves to remove the broken glass. Last night, I removed the old glass, painted the frame, and went to put in the glass from Lowe's. It was 1/4"" too big. As I was frustrated with Lowe's, I went to t he nearest glass shop, Ace Glass on Spicewood Springs road. I took in my $6.90 Lowe's glass and asked if they could take off just 1/4"". Sure, no problem. It will take 5min. I waited 15min in the waiting room and went to see if it was ready. Three office guys (including the one that took my glass) were sitting in the office laughing. I asked if my order was ready: ""Yeah, we'll get to it in a minute."" 10min later, I go into the lobby to get the my trimmed down by 1/4"" piece. ""That will be $20, ma'am."" WHAT?!!! For a piece of glass that I BROUGHT TO YOU? It cost me $6.90! No negotiating. I obviously had SUPER SUCKER on my face. Please beware of this business for your glass cutting needs. I've heard that Alamo glass on Lamar won't treat people like this.I wish I had gone there instead. more

This place is also a auto salvage place that sells car parts, and they're pretty great. I've been there a few times in the last week because I was hit by a semi without insurance. I got a tire rim for $25 and a drivers side mirror for $35. I couldn't afford to have the drivers side mirror installed, so they did it for free because they said it was way too dangerous for me to drive without it. Really nice, very friendly, and the install was simple but perfect. I'm gonna be going back to these guys for a long time. more

UPDATE: Shortly after writing this review, RJ Cavanaugh from the company called me personally to apologize, tell me he had addressed my comments with his staff, and say that he would “owe me one” in the future. I appreciated the gesture and will hold him to his word if I ever need assistance with glass needs again.\r \r Overall, my experiences with Ace Glass & Door have been revolting.\r For one thing, there is no continuity regarding who answers the phone. Due to this, I made an appointment with one person, only to be told it was non-existent by a second person when I called to find out why a technician hadn’t shown up.\r In addition, the people working there dispense opposing information. The first time I called regarding my broken glass back door (which they did fix, after coming out twice), I asked if they did screen work, which was answered in the negative – only to have the technician that came by – “Steve” -- offer to do any screen work that I might need! And when I took him up on the offer, things went straight downhill. The first 2 times he visited, he was unable to fix the problem that, admittedly, another company had caused. However, he missed the 3rd appointment (telling me he had “lost my paperwork” and so couldn’t find a way to contact me (after I called him to find out why he had stood me up), and then also missed the 4th appointment, this time after I had emailed him to remind him! When I called the office and asked to speak to the owner or manager, ""Trent” took my call and claimed he would fix everything to my satisfaction. He swore that he would get Steve to call me back – something that never happened. After I called Trent 2 more times and left messages, I just gave up and hired someone else.\r In short, many of the employees of this company are unprofessional, lacking in conscientiousness, and have no concept of customer service. Hire them at your own risk. Oh – and make note that one reason they have the relatively high rating that they do is because at least one of their employees has left a 5-star rating on this site, thus skewing the ratings of actual customer opinion.\r \r more

If you have auto glass needs, call Ace Discount Glass! My rear window was busted out this morning, and after calling over 8 different places, Ace Discount quoted us less than 1/2 of what the other places were going to charge. The service was fast, professional, and perfect. Robert was a HUGE help, and I'd absolutely send people this way again! Thanks again Robert! more

This morning for some reason my passenger side door would not close so we went to Ace Discount Glass. The man we talked to was very professional and helpful, showing me how to fix the problem (incase it happened again). The price was very reasonable for the quick service. It is not my first time at Ace Discount but I would recommend this place to anyone! You will not be disappointed!! more

My windshield had a large chip in it and needed to be replaced. I had plans to go out of town so needed quick service. Not only did Roy get me in and out in less than an hour, but his staff did an excellent job and offered great customer service. And the price was fair and reasonable! Brought my car in to replace an old window regulator. Roy was helpful and gave me an estimate. I also got 2 other estimates from other places, but ACE Discount Glass & Door on Spicewood Springs was by far the least expensive. The part was ordered and the next day I brought my car back at a time I suggested...they were ready for me as soon as I drove in. My car was ready in an hour. It was fast service at a reasonable price. I would definitely go back to ACE! \r Also, you can go to their website and Roy made a video on how a window regulator works! From start to finish our experience with Ace Discount Glass was exceptional. We wanted a frameless glass shower door and RJ was precise with measurements, recommendations and answered all of our questions. The price was also very competitive. The installation was flawless and we are more than pleased with the results! This was a wonderful addition to our bathroom. Will contact Ace for as further needs arise. more

Found Ace in the Lakeway Community Phone Book. Had an install on a frame-less shower and it was done very poorly. I called Ace and they sent someone out to repair it. Not only did they do a great job, offer me a couple of options, but they cleaned up after themselves too! By the way, this was a new home and the sub-contractor who did the original install would not come back to fix the mess. Needless to say, they went out of business no long after; however, Ace was the hero. I would not hesitate to use them again, and again, and again... more

Our car was broken into last night outside Lambert's in Fort Worth, and since we have a small infant and it is winter, we needed a new window immediately. We called over 30 auto glass repair companies in the Dallas Fort Worth area, and even in Waco and Temple. No one had the piece of glass we needed, except for Ace. They got us in right away on a Saturday, and replaced the window and cleaned the up all of the glass in less than 45 minutes! And the cost was almost half the price we were quoted by Safelite. Would definitely return! Thank you so much!!!! more

Had my appt window replaced by these people. OMG, the quality of the work is barely acceptable. What is disgusting is the people we dealt with... when you ask them for some information, they would yell at you, hang up on you (multiple times)... no matter ""ladies"" or ""gentlemen"" of this company... just very very rude people.... STAY AWAY!!! agree with one of the earlier post, some of the 5 star posts here made not be written by real customers.... watch out! more

I do not live in Autin but was attending a seminar there over the weekend. Between 12:30 am and 9:15 am Sunday morning, the front passenger door window was broken out. AAA was not able to help so the hotel desk found Ace Discount for me. Chris and Roy Cavanaugh did everything they possibly could do to take care of me and my car. I had to be back at the seminar before my car was repaired so Roy and Chris made arrangements for me to get to the seminar and get my car to me once it was repaired. The window repair was really only a small part of the service they provided I highly recommend this company. more

I am Dissatisfied with labor done. The man on the phone said all the right things but the guy who came out did not have a clue of what we had discussed on the phone. He did not have the correct parts and cheap caulking that takes 24 hours to dry (also only clear caulking that did not match). The best caulking takes 3 hours to dry. He left a mess flinging things around and getting caulking on my rug. He slapped the caulking over one mildewed area and told me we could do the rest ourselves. I was told they would clean out the old caulking, clean the area and dry it and replace it. This guy had no clue and left a mess, didn't finish my shower, used cheap material and my shower still leaks. They get one star for showing up. I was riped off. more

I've had two windshields replaced here and I checked prices both times - Ace gave me the best price and they fixed it really fast. I think the fact that they are a local family owned business makes a difference. more

I have had a small crack in my pickup for a couple of years. This winter it got big enough that it would not pass inspection. I called a couple of places for prices. These guys were near my work and were willing to come to me. I originally told them I was getting prices and they lowered their price to 189$ on my 2004 ford pickup if I would bring it in to their shop. They said there were a lot of ""fly by night"" operations in town and that it was better to go with a company with an address in case there were any problems. The price was good and they told me it would only take about an hour, so I brought in my truck around lunch time. They were all eating lunch when I got there, but within a few minutes there ""best man"" got started on my windshield. I sat and watched David in their bay even though the sign said I should wait elsewhere. I guess everyone else was too busy eating lunch to worry about me. The technician really new what he was doing. I had to replace my wiper motor once and it took me about an hour to get the top part(cowling) off my truck to get to the motor. He did it in about 2 minutes. I was like,""where were you when I needed you?"". Anyway, it is a cool process to watch. They didn't skimp anywhere and my windshield passed inspection. One of the guys in the office gave me directions about the first 24 hours and taking care of my windshield, then he asked me if I would write a review online. Their ""best man"", David, really knew his way around my truck. He didn't move fast but he definitely was not slow. I was back at work about 1:20, so the install really did take about an hour. It's been a few weeks and I have had no problems. I would recommend Ace Discount Glass to anyone. Pros: price, speed, and quality Cons: I don't want to have to replace my windshield ever again more

This is not the perfect time of year to be having your window break in your car. But stuff happens and when your wife asks you to organize the garage better, I suggest you do it...oh and take the car out first. A metal rake fell and hit my side window of our 2003 Ford Taurus and broke the driver side window out. Ace Discount Glass Fixed it that day, thank goodness, because it was my wifes car.
