I've had brake, alignment, exhaust, tires, oil change and coolant work done, plus on several occasions I've brought my car in to have a ""funny noise"" diagnosed or to have Jim give it a thorough going over to check for needed repairs. In all cases, he has done great work and been honest. When I don't need anything done, he always says so, saving me from spending money needlessly. For example, two other shops told me I needed new rear shocks. I brought the car to Jim, and, unlike the other two places, he actually inspected and road-tested the car. His conclusion: the shocks were old, but worked fine and did not have any leaks. ""Just keep driving it."" Another time, when replacing my exhaust system, he noticed that the existing muffler was in good shape and re-used it, rather than selling me a new one.
Two MBTA bus lines to Alewife run by the shop, which makes it very convenient for dropping off the car.
This is a true ""old-fashioned"" garage. He's been in business for something like 30 years, knows cars inside and out, and treats everybody fairly.
Pros: Great work, small shop, fair prices
