I have been to this restaurant in the waterworks mall numerous times and have never had an item I did not like. The food is good but a little expensive for what you get. I think the best value is the Sunday brunch. Its very cheap and you get a lot of food. They also have a party room in the back that if you need to hold a surprise party or a christmas party it is secluded from the rest of the restaurant. They charge no fee for this too. Me and my fiancee love this place, so we are thinking of having our rehearsal dinner there. more

Great food 3/15/2006

I've been to Abate (pronounced ah-bah-tay) on several occasions, including a surprise party, a brunch, and two bridal showers. There's a great covered patio that gives patrons a breath of fresh air without the sun beating down on their meals. The brunch buffet is fantastic and includes everything from waffles and eggs benedict to an omlette station. I had my bridal shower here as well and was really pleased with the service and the food. As with most restaurants, service really depends on who is working, but they seem to hire competent and hardworking people here. Give Abate a try! more

Good place to hold gatherings 3/12/2006

My wife's bridal shower was held at Abate Seafood Co., and she seemed quite pleased with the restaurant. Portions were really large, and service was excellent. For the quality and quantity of food, we were surprised by less than astronomical prices. Her only complaint was that one of the ceiling fans in their room was broken, and it took all but begging the employees to fix it before the guests came. Overall, a great place with good food and a great brunch buffet. more

Abate is a very nice restaurant with good service and good food. This place is located in the waterworks and is one of the best restaurants in that location. Besides great seafood, some of the best fish I have ever tasted they also have other very good specialties such as a variety of none fish meat entrees. more

A good restaurant in Waterworks 9/16/2005

This is one of the better restaurants to eat at in Waterworks. The seafood is fresh and the prices are on par. We had excellent service and our waitstaff even recommended a dessert, which was great! more

Well 9/2/2005

My official opinion is - ok. Food is average, atmosphere is average...all in all I would say it is average. It still beats the chains and there is a variety on the menu...something for everyone. However if you are looking for a restaurant to knock your socks off...this isn't it. But give it a shot...I may have been there on a bad day. The service was good and the people friendly. It was clean and nice...just nothing that took my breath away. more

Great Food & reasonable prices 8/10/2005

Abate's one of my favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh. They have great food at reasonable prices. They officially specialize in Italian Seafood. I'm not a big fan of seafood but they have a wide selection of dishes. They have a private room for parties. We had our rehearsal dinner here and it was reasonably price, the food was FANTASTIC (their 7 layer chocolate cake is phenomenal), and the service was excellent. I've also had less stellar experiences here though including really poor service (I think our waitress forgot about us) and bland food. Overall, though, I highly recommend Abate's. more
