Abarkus Pet Spa

My goldendoodle Jackson and I were just in Lake Charles visiting my family for Thanksgiving. Jackson needed to be groomed and I figured I would just take care of it once I got to Lake Charles. Bad idea. \r I will never take my dog or any of my family's animals to Abarkus Pet Spa again. Jackson has multiple hot spots, only one ear was cleaned, he was cut 4 times and most of all, is now completely uncomfortable. \r The employees did not say one word to me about his skin being irritated and cut when I picked him up. I would have liked to be informed of the situation, at least, after being charged $75. This is not the way ""knowledgeable groomers/breeders"" or ANYONE should treat an animal. Abarkus is NOT a safe place for your animal!!!!!! more

I've been knowing the owners of Abarkus for many years. They are the most knowledgable groomers/breeders that I have ever known. Obviously this ""Goose"" person has them confused with someone else or is deliberately lying to hurt their business. This person apparently has never owned a dog. Using a ""cage"" is not abuse! It is a safe place for your animal to be when you can not keep your eyes on them. I would much rather see my dog in a cage when I drop her off to be groomed than see her running around on the floor where she can get hurt. And there are about 6 kennels or as Goose calls them ""cages"". Other than that there are about 7 play pens where the dogs have blankets and water. I recently bought a tea cup yorkie from abarkus and they have been there every step of the way. From frantic phone calls early in the morning from me worried because I didn't think she ate enough lol. They always treat every question or problem I have serious no matter how ridiculous I can be! I just wanted to set the record straight Abarkus knows what they are doing and are very loving and caring people. more

I came to this review site because I wanted to give thanks to the people who saved my dog. This little dog is one I bought from Abarkus and the most precious good natured little creature anyone could want, he is a Malti-poo. The VET we brought him to busted an abcess in his anal gland and sent him home with infection raging in his body, unknown to us. We brought him for his grooming appointment and these pet lovers immediately took over. They could see there was a problem. We brought him back the next day and the next day which was a Saturday early in the morning so Luanne could drain the abcess. She provided advice and an antibiotic salve as well as draining the gland which was not something we could or would do. These folks are animal lovers to the core. I cannot imagine anything further from the truth than the person who left the negative review with a goofy name. Most likely a grumpy competitor. I would recommend buying a dog from these people anyday and I have proof that their babies are wonderful. Thank you Abarkus for saving our baby..we won't forget that. more

This grooming business appears to be a front for a small-scale commercial breeding operation located in a former residence. A curtain in the former living room hides the rest of the facility from patrons. The relaxing doggy spa is located out back on the open PORCH, facing a dirt yard inhabited by three apparently unwanted products of breeding experiments -- Airedale Terriers crossed with Standard Poodles. There's nothing creative or new about mixing dog breeds to see what you'll get. It isn't ""designing"", and it eventually results in dogs that nobody wants. Want to conduct experiments? How about taking a science class? A fourth Airedale/Poodle mix is seen living inside in a converted bedroom which houses toy breeds kept in cages. The living room contains even more cages of toy breeds. No love and kissies for any of these guys. Just endless hours sitting on uncomfortable wire, deprived of sensory stimulation (other than the smell of their own excrement wafting up from underneath their cages) and human contact. What a life for animals that have sensitive noses and that were bred for human companionship. ""Airedoodle"". This is not a breed. They could grow up to be like either parental breed or anything in between. They are mutts, plain and simple. So is your Yorkipoo, Cockapoo, and Maltipoo, and they're worth no more than the cost of the initial vet visit for a first round of jabs. There's also no such dog breed as a ""teacup"" or ""tiny teacup"" anything. The AKC standard for Chihuahuas' weight is up to 6 pounds. Yorkies, up to 7 pounds. A 3.5 pound Yorkie is a YORKIE. The use of ""teacup"" nomenclature is a scam by breeders to upgrade poorly-bred dogs and charge more for them -- dogs deliberately bred to the smaller end of the weight range for their breed, usually at the expense of health, temperament, and conformation.
