A 144,000 acre area is home to endangered and threatened species as the snail kite,wood stork and
alligators Migrating waterfowl return in the winter Facilities include fishing, boating , kayaking and bird watching, There are nature trails, bicycle trails, a 5.5 mile canoe trail and a visitor center. This refuge is operated by the US National Park service. If you have a Golden pass, the admission is free otherwise the cost is $5.00 per carload.
The visitor center has many interesting exhibits and there are often photo contests.
