Sony Metreon 3/20/2006

A ticket to the movies at the Sony Metreon is more expensive than other theatres in the city and there are no student discounts, so I don't visit very often. The nice thing is that it's not a far walk from the Powell BART station. Other than the theatre, the complex is pretty dead and there is nothing to do. It's actually a pretty sad waste of space. There are a couple stores including Sony, an arcade, a bar, and some casual restaurants. All of these are overpriced and not very interesting. more

metreon center 3/20/2006

what a great place to watch a movie. i'd have to say this is the best sf movie spot for several reasons...parking is easy in the lot which is reasonably priced and there are other forms of entertainment. there's an arcade area, shopping, restaurants, coffee and ofcourse theaters all within the center. plus union square and other points of interest are within walking distance. more

Best Movie Theatre 3/19/2006

The Metreon is tops for movies. It has the most comfortable seats, biggest screens, and best sound system of any movie theatre in San Francisco. It offers a variety of movies, from the biggest blockbusters to smaller films. It can get crowded, but with so many screens you'll always have a movie to watch. And it's extremely convenient to get tickets, since it has several ticketing machines, some of the first floor next to the regular ticket line, and a few machines on the 3rd floor where the theatre is. This is a great convenience. As an added plus, the Metreon Complex has Starbucks, Chronicles Books, shops, and a few restaurants, so you can hang out before or after a movie. Centrally located and state of the art, it's the best movie house in town. more

Metreon-Loews Theatres 10/8/2005

I love the Metreon theater. It is so clean and well maintained. They always recycle movies and offer the most recent ones. I don't think their prices are higher. In fact, they are comparable to all the other upscale movie theaters. Eventhe smaller movie theaters in the bay area are now pricy. They have wonderful entertainment available before or after you see a movie. There is a great play area for children and I always take my nephews to the bowling alley nestled in the back of teh biolding. Only hard thing is the parking. But which part of the city can yo really find parking anyway?!! more

Check out the IMAX theater 8/20/2005

The Metreon movie theaters are generally one of the better theaters in SF. They're what you'd expect from a modern multiplex (stadium seating, good sound, expensive concessions). I really like the IMAX theater, which is one of, if not the largest in the world. They used to play regular movies on the IMAX screens, which was always a nice bonus, and now there are an increasing number of mainstream movies being released specifically for IMAX. The tickets are more expensive, but it's a whole different moving going experience. I don't know if it's because the tickets are more expensive or if it's the larger IMAX theater, I found that people are much better behaved (much less talking and cell phones). more

Metreon- Loews Theatres 8/16/2005

The Metreon of San Francisco is a great place to hang out and meet with your friends when planning to watch a movie. They have the most recent movie releases, and have plenty of times for each movie. The cineplex contains over 20 movie theatre screens, and also features the famous IMAX screen. The theatres are clean, and the seats are comfortable. The Metreon is located in Downtown San Francisco, and is a great attraction for tourists. Many restaurants and cafes are nearby. The pricing for movies are a bit pricey, but are overlooked by the sound systems and quality of the movies more

Pricey 8/10/2005

Loews Theatres is the largest theatre that I know in San Francisco. It has a few huge IMAX screens. Often they would have something playing in those IMAX screens and those are a blast. Even though the prices for tickets are higher than others, it is still a fun place to spend with your family. They also have arcades and food. more

Metreon 8/9/2005

Metreon used to be the big thing back a few years ago when it first opened because it was a big movie theatre located in downtown San Francisco but now, most people go to Century 20 in Daly City because they have free parking and lots of eating shops. Metreon still has a great variety of movies and shops so there are many tourists who attend the place. The tickets are a bit pricier than other theatres but the venue is still really pretty so come check it out when you can! more

Weekend Hangout 7/14/2005

I LOVE the Metreon. It's the perfect high tech place for teens to chill out with their friends on the weekends. It has great arcades, food, and entertainment (movies). It's also a fun place to visit with your family, I love the Where the Wild Things are "attraction" and all their 3-D shows. I saw one on Egypt that was amazing and so life-like! more

It's the location that makes it great 6/22/2005

The fact that the theatre is right next to the Yerba Buena Gardens makes this a stand out theatre. That and the SONY store, if video games is your thing. But if you like to have a nice stroll before or after your movie, hanging out with your loved one(s), especially kids, walk on out to the grassy knoll of Yerba Buena. Also, you can walk right on over to the ZEUM museum, or the playground right across the bridge. This is a fun place to spend a good afternoon, watching a movie then going out and spending time outdoors. Or playing video games. more

  • In Short
The Metreon is more than a collection of high-tech-gadget superstores--it's a tourist attraction. Some serious gadget connoisseurs get the first glance at the latest trick up Bill Gates' sleeve, but most Metreon customers are movie-goers waiting for their flick to begin. The four floors of flashing lights, exciting exhibits and technological wonders bring new meaning to the term "sensory overload."
