Editorial review from Citysearch 2/8/2013

AMC was wise to buy Southpoint Cinemas. It's a great venue, including IMAX. Does anyone really care that the IMAX screen in Raleigh is is roughly six feet wider? It's also subsidized by Wells Fargo.\r \r Concessions and management--including toilets-- have always been more than adequate/clean. Anyone who visits any movie venue could/should expect young, annoying kids.\r \r Welcome AMC to North Carolina.\r \r \r more

RUDE STAFF 3/18/2011

I went there expectingt to have a nice time with firnds and of course sometimes we were whispering and during the previews some people had there phones out one of the people who worked there rudely told us to put them away and if we did it again wed be kicked out. Well someone complained and apparently and this lady came back assuming it was us and told us to leave ! we only say about 15 mins of the movie and she was very rude and only gave us one warning. Why should u ruin like 15 people enjoyment when everyone in the theater was talking, becasuse 1 person was just a little uncomfotable it was like she targeted us ! it was not a good experience and it was not a very welcoming place and i am never going there again and the prices r to high. more

nice place as long as nothing goes wrong 1/31/2010

The first time i went and took the kids to see a movie one afternoon and there was no sound and it was in black and white for a good 20 min the staff solution was to ""start it over"" like we had no other plans that day then after complaining they said they would give us a rainy day pass if we showed them our ticket stubs (she asked no one else for them) but the person with the ticket stubs was using the restroom after i asked her to wait just a moment the rude manager acted like she didnt hear me and walked off as the person was heading over with the tickets. So now i had to track her down and get the ""rainy day tickets"" which she acted like it killed her to give us. Strike one the next time was about a month ago i had forgin exchange students stay at my place two girls and neither one of them looked anywhere under 16 there almost 30 when they showed them there passports (yes you need ID to see a movie now) the young kid at the ticket booth said they were not good enough so i asked to speak with the manager he was very rude and didnt bother to help in any kind of way so we left and went some where else because theres notthing like spending a bunch of money in a place that doesnt care about you. Pros: Really Nice Theater Cons: WORST STAFF EVER!!!!! more

WORST THEATER EXPERIENCE EVER!!! 10/1/2009

Worst movie going experience EVER!!! Bought 5 Tickets online, called theater to confirm time (midnight 1 night only screening). Theater told us to be there Thurs. at midnight, got there along with 15 other people & was told the movie was showing the next night (20 people were told the wrong night). Mgr. offered no apology, solution, or anything for inconvenience; all she kept saying was, we can't give any refunds...no one was asking for a refund! I suggested free tickets to another show for everyone for having to drive to Durham at midnight for nothing, especially since we would all have to drive back the next day, they said okay. Came back to see the movie Friday, gave them my conformation information & was told ""since we gave you tickets to another movie, we canceled your tickets for this movie"" and its now SOLD OUT so we can't let you in. Seriously!? I kept telling the mgr. that she had to make this right, that driving 35 mins. to Durham twice to see a movie that I bought tickets for a week in advance & still not being allowed to see it wasn't right! Instead of trying to figure something out, she called the Police! Seriously!? Another Mgr. came over, took back our ""comp/free tickets"" and got us into the movie. WORST THEATER EVER...SERIOUSLY!!! Cons: RUDE, GAVE WRONG INFORMATION, MANAGEMENT HORRIBLE more

NOT a STINKY rule! 11/15/2008

Regarding the ""no leftovers from restaurants can be brought into the theater"" rule: I was recently asked to put my seafood leftovers in the car, and complied without complaint. When I opened the car after the movie and was nearly bowled over by the aroma, I fully understood the reason for the rule. Pros: stadium seating Cons: Too many previews and commercials more

No Outside Food Rule is STUPID 10/15/2008

I went to Southpoint with some friends. I bought a coffee at Starbucks before I went to the movies and my friends had leftover food. When the manager told us we had to put it back in our car and that I couldn't drink my coffee, I went OFF ON THEM. I told them where to go and said ""Fine, if we can't see the movie, we'll go somewhere else so give us our money back."" I made such a scene that they finally relented. My friends and I are responsible ADULTS, not teeny boppers! The theater should pay more attention to the trash that they let into the theater instead of people who are respectful. Pros: the mall, the restaurants nearby Cons: management is OCD; can't bring your leftovers after dinner; don't buy a coffee at Starbucks before the movie, they will give you heck over it more

Stop Whining 8/11/2008

This movie theatre is the best in the Triangle Area. I keep reading these reviews from unhappy people who can't get what they want. And the common complaint is the ""no outside food and drink"" policy. Come on people. Who DOESN'T know that you can't bring in food and drinks to the movies? You all know it and that's why you sneak it in. Just because you're bringing in leftovers from a restaurant does not make you any different from anybody else. Put it in your car. Stop whining. You obviously walk past all the signs warning you about it. And you still don't buy concession stand stuff anyway so you're not even supporting this local theatre. What would you do if you went to a restaurant down the road? Would you still bring in your leftovers? Anyway, this movie theatre is really nice, clean, and their presentation is fabulous. I've been coming here for years, and they've definitely taken care of the problem with long lines. I always see a Manager walking around checking on things, and rarely do I see employees slacking off. I think anyone who is visiting this theatre for the first time will have a very good experience, and they will be impressed. I've been to so many theatres that are terrible compared to Southpoint. They're doing it right. Pros: audio/visual; movie selection; seating; cleanliness; ambience Cons: movies sell out fast; lots of teenagers; whiny customers more

will never return 8/8/2008

My friends and I traveled to Southpointe for dinner and a movie. We had dinner and then walked over to the theatre, paid for tickets and proceeded inside. Once inside some 15 year old kid refused to let us in because we had leftovers from the restaurant we just left. He went on, blah, blah, blah about their ""no outside food policy"" and that his manager had already seen our bags. The ""big"" manager and her rent-a-cop came over and proceed to be extremely rude over the situation. We were ticked! Here we are in our thirties and forties and some kids are telling us we can't come in because of our leftovers! Really? We missed the sign when we paid for our tickets and just proceeded in- next time it will go in my purse! Oh, but wait- we're not coming back to your theatre! It was throw out your leftovers or you can't be here! Well, the reason we were in Durham was for dinner and a movie and we wanted to see the movie, so yes, we had to throw away our food! They did offer to refund our ticket money- how very kind of them! Ha! I understand bringing in a 5 course meal to eat while watching their movie is forbidden and that wasn't the case. We were too full from dinner to break into those leftovers during the movie anyway! So, you guessed it... we didn't even purchase their food either because we were full from dinner! Sorry guys, no food sale from us and there won't be in the future because we will not return. You can keep you crappy theatre in your crappy town. No one from Raleigh would dare move there and we won't be seen there again! Pros: easy access Cons: rude staff more

Place needs new management 7/18/2008

This is a great theater and we have been there at least a hundred times. The facility is fantastic. That being said we have had two really bad experiences. We had a friend get arrested there for bringing an apple into the theater. Tonight my daughter was hassled there by the manager and called a liar when she tried to exchange her tickets for a different show time of Batman. This place needs new management and they need to swap some of the employees out. Pros: Facility is among the best I have seen Cons: employees are rude and the prices are high. more

Best Movie Theatre I've Been To 7/10/2008

I was so thoroughly impressed with this movie theatre that I'm anxious to go back with my 3 yr old son. I am a young mother of two, and I recently decided to try to take my 1 yr old daughter to the movies; my first time with either of my children. While shopping at the mall one day, I decided to take my daughter to the movie theatre and ask a manager if I could ""test"" her to see if she'd like it. The manager was more than accommodating and she let me take my little girl in Kung Fu Panda for a few minutes just to see if she'd be scared of the dark or all the noise. We came out a few minutes later and I decided that I'd bring her back another day. When we came back this past Friday, my daughter started out good, but eventually she became antsy. So I took her out to the hallway until she could calm down. One nice manager saw me and he asked me if I was having a difficult time. He said he noticed me out in the lobby a few times and he offered me a free movie pass to come back another day. I thought that was so sweet and thoughtful of him. I never even would've thought of asking for anything, but he reaffirmed my desire to try again some other time. I will definitely come back to Southpoint Cinemas, and I'll be sure to bring the rest of my family, too. Oh, and the staff was very nice and helfpul as well. When I purchased my snacks, the cashier noticed how full my hands were with all my mommy stuff that she called for an usher to help me carry my things into the theatre. You couldn't ask for better service. Pros: customer service, management, availability of staff, cleanliness, cupholder armrests Cons: ticket prices (but that's everybody else, too), someone snuck Taco Bell in theatre (smelly) more

The WORST Movie theare in the triangle 7/5/2008

Really horrible corporate and unkind service. Had a snotty manager who was maybe twenty tell us we could not enter with a closed bag bought at the mall of food. CLOSED! Asked the manager to hold it , put it in their office, and snotty twenty year old said it was a health code violation, which is code for the corporate exhibition business thinks this will save them money because maybe I will make a mess in their theatre. I got a refund and taught my 8 year old that we don't waste food in a world of starving people and we do not give our money to places that treat us badly. Pros: zero Cons: rude, so why go here when I can go anywhere? more

Loud 5/4/2008

I know movies are suppost to be loud, especially action movies. However, having to plug my ears through half the movie was a little excessive. So, if you tend to think movies are too loud, avoid action movies here, or bring along some ear plugs. But, if you enjoy really really loud movies, this is the place for you. As for me, my ears still hurt. Pros: nice seating Cons: loud more

Overzealous rule enforcement: no outside WATER? 9/28/2006

After a couple of hours of shopping, my wife and I stopped at the Food Court in the mall and bought two bottles of water (AquaFina). We made our way to the cinemas for a late afternoon show, bought tickets, and entered the theatre with our half-empty bottles. We were amazed when the ticket taker refused us entry. We were told to throw away our remaining water or leave it in the cashier's booth until the film was over. We were hot and thirsty and wanted to continue hydrating during the movie. What a ludicrous assertion of power and absurdly petty interpretation of the ""no outside food"" rule! We left and won't go back. Too bad we weren't there to see ""The Little Dictator."" more

Avoid ""G"" rated movies in the early afternoon since parents have a habit of bringing their infants to the movies with them rather than finding someone to watch the child. 8/7/2006

Southpoint Cinemas have some of the best seating anywhere. Perhaps the theater could ""mobile phoneproof"" all of the theaters. I went to one movie not long ago and the man sitting next to me not only did not shut off his cell phone but had an entire conversation on it. He also had two children with him - what an example he was setting for the kids, who, by the way, talked throughout the film. I guess the apples do not fall far from the tree! The bathrooms were clean. To all of the people who complain about being late because of the long lines - get there earlier! I do not mind waiting in the cool theater even 15 minutes before the film starts. Also, eat before coming to the movies and stop complaining about the popcorn and other food items. Pros: Seating; promptness Cons: Parking can be a problem, but it is at a mall. I expect the masses! more

obnoxious crowd 3/23/2006

Everything else about this theatre is great. If you go on a Fri or Sat. night be prepared to deal with high school kids. The last 3 times we have dealt with cell phones, conversations, spoilers, random outbursts and constant laughing (both related and unrelated to the movie). We have reserved it to a matinee and weekday only venue (which is rare). Pros: facilities Cons: crowd more

A Great Theatre 1/1/2006

This theater is comfortable, it has clean restrooms and good parking. The only problem is the slow lines, for both tickets and consessions. The consession staff isn't the nicest either. But, if you do manage to make your show, there are great seats with lots of leg room, and the picture is usually great. There aren't many advertisements either. Overall, I am very impressed with the quality and convenience of southpoint cinemas. Pros: comfortable, clean/good parking, good sound quality Cons: long lines, often grumpy staff more

Everything you need. 11/10/2005

This is a great theater. There are excellent prices if you come before the nighttime rush, and great student discounts. Very comfortable seating, and LOTS of leg room. The concessions are too expensive, but there are a ton of places around to eat. People complain about the long lines, but there is a free standing electronic ticket booth outside, so just pre- buy your tickets! All- in- all one of the best theaters around. Pros: Comfy seating, CLEAN RESTROOMS!, student discount Cons: expensive consessions more

Concession Lines LONG & SLOW 9/10/2004

This is an overall nice theater, but the concession lines are usually very long due to very slow, sluggish employees behind the counter. Even short lines can take a while with slow people working that counter - so beware the concession lines if you don't want to miss the beginning of your movie! Pros: Location, Clean & Well Kept, Good Crowd Cons: , Slow Concession Line more

Umm - line problem! 1/24/2003

The theater and concessions are great, and the selection of movies is usually broad enough to suit my tastes. Prices are reasonable if you come at the right times. HOWEVER... What is the deal w/ the lines??? It's 30 degrees out, and I have to wait outside for 15 minutes to get a ticket? You're crazy! Try adding a couple of windows, or... here's a crazy idea, inside ticket counters. Sheesh! Pros: Atmosphere, Audio/Visual, Comfortable seating Cons: Horrible lines more

Definitely great! 1/21/2003

I've been to two movies at Southpoint and have had great experiences both times. Both times, we bought our tickets earlier that day when they weren't busy (ever heard of that, people!) since we were at the mall anyway. I liked that they had tables that you could sit and wait at since we arrived EARLY to purchase our popcorn and drinks. The only pain here were people that come in AFTER the movie starts and inconvenience YOU while they try to walk in front of you to find their seats. I say, don't let people in after movie starts! Also, nicest concession person I ever met! Pros: Good selection, Nice waiting area, Comfortable/Clean Cons: At the mall, Late people more
