Abracadabra is a wonderful place to take your kids on a weekend jaunt to the city. It's filled with magic tricks and practical jokes. Whoopee cushions. Trick cards. Magic wands. My kids come here and get lost for hours. The owner is also very nice and sometimes performs tricks for the kids. Try leaving the store without buying something. more

Spooky chaos 5/27/2006

Abracadabra is similar to Halloween Adventure, but also offers higher end costume rentals. Going here during the actual Halloween season is intolerable (even worse than Halloween Adventure). So plan early for the best selection and for your sanity. Also make sure you call ahead, their hours are rather limited outside of the Halloween season. more

Calling all Harry Potter afficianados, Lover of Gandalf from Lord of the Rings or your run of the mill Houdini/David Copperfield fan get ready to Abracadabra yourself to...Abracadra! The coolest of the cool magic shops they have everything from slight of hand to card tricks for budding magicians and bug in your soup, joy buzzer and whoopee cushion for the jokester. Abracadabra is not just for Halloween. If you want to throw any kind of party or are a theater person, Abracadabra is the spot for your costume and prop needs (especially if you are interested in horror -- they have fantastic masks). The prices are better than some of the other costume shops around the Union Square area. I love their wig section - wide variety and good quality. These wigs will last beyond one night. They carry a large amount of kids costumes in addition to their adult section. It is a bit chaotic, so prepared to be overwhelmed by the volume and choice. more

Who needs Hogwarts 12/30/2005

This is more of kid friendly Hogwarts meets shop around the corner. The magic tricks in here would make Houdini himself squeal with joy. They also have numerous joke items like joy buzzers and trick gum. The owner is often willing to demonstrate how magic tricks work. On Saturdays they have little magic shows for kids for free. more

Abracadabra Magic 12/5/2005

Abracadabra is one of the best places in the city to find a costume. It is a store everyone should visit at least once. They have a huge selection of costumes and magic tricks. They sell stuff such as coin tricks, fake finger slicers, books, and other gag items. Its a pretty fun store to go to and look around. It would probably be a great place to go for Halloween but I'd imagine it would be packed with pople. more

Do you believe in magic or just want to learn some tricks to impress your friends? Abracadabra Superstore has everything you need. Magic tricks. Practical tricks. Costumes. This place is a trip around Halloween. The owner will even sometimes demonstrate some of the magic tricks especially to little kids on Saturdays. Hogwarts has nothing on this place. more

Abracadabra is one of the few places for costume shopping in New York City. You can almost describe it as a warehouse. During the week leading up to Halloween, the store becomes a little messy, and you will have to dig through the stock. Prices are not that great for what are offered, so I prefer shopping in Ricky’s instead. more
