5/2010 SOURCE: http://www.yelp.com/user_details?userid=j99MueTzGy_LfUx5WhFmXg I called A-1 Garage Door Service after finding them on http://Superpages.com, reading great Yelp reviews (and not-so-great Yelp reviews of another large "improve the look-a-your home" garage door company that I was originally going to call), and seeing that A-1's contractor license was up to date and their BBB rating was A+. From the moment Ken, the dispatcher, picked up the phone, I knew I had called the right place. I explained the problem with my door. Ken immediately understood and gave two options: make a repair that would hold for awhile before the door would eventually need to be replaced, or just replace the door up front. There was no pressure either way. I opted for replacement. I told Ken that I was outside of their South Bay service area. He said he would call Frank to see if they would still take the job and that I would hear back from him within five minutes. Less than five minutes later, Ken called back and said that Frank agreed to do the work. Ben showed up on time for the appointment. My wife and I were given a couple of door options and estimates, again with no pressure as to which way to go. After we made our choice, Ben went to get the new door and parts. Within two hours of returning, he removed the old door and installed the new one, which I might add, runs more quietly than the old door ever had in the past. He also upgraded our remotes and programmed the opener to recognize them, and replaced our broken keyless entry pad for a quarter of the price of the replacement I had been looking at purchasing. From the initial phone call through the completion of the installation, Frank, Ken and Ben showed professionalism, timeliness and fairness. Don't waste your time with anyone else. You want these guys working on your garage door. more

Another company I contacted this morning could not schedule me until Friday afternoon (today is Tuesday) so based on Yelp reviews, I contacted A-1. Frank was at my house within 20 minutes and he quickly repaired my garage briefing me on the problem he resolved timelessly. He and his secretary Stephanie are very down to earth and neighborly. The cost of the repair was actually less than an earlier quote I received from the company who could not come out until Friday... This is my first Yelp review. Why? Because A-1's quality of service is worth mentioning to those in need of garage repair in the South Bay. Outstanding service! more

I called him at 5:30 pm with a broken garage door, he said he'd be at my house around 7 pm to take a look at it. At 7:05 pm, my phone rang and it was Frank letting me know that he had arrived. I walked out to my garage and the door was FIXED! I said, "Wow, you've already fixed it!" Frank replied, "Yeah, I wanted to fix it then call you so I didn't waste any of your time." Amazing! And his price was totally reasonable. Can't say enough good things about A-1! more

I've been using him in my rentals, my own place, and even trust him at Mom's house! Now, that's something! One time, both my sisters called to point out that the new garage door is not working. Amidst a busy day for Frank, he came by pretty quickly on a Saturday only to find out that it's on manual mode. With a smile and patience, Frank took things in stride with a good attitude about it all. He is very reasonable with his price, especially with the quality and commitment you'll get. Those lucky enough to live in the South Bay, please take note if you ever need any garage door install or repair! more

This is a followup to my initial review of A-1 Garage Door Service dated 10/12/2010 (Yelp filtered out. Click on bottom (# filtered) to see it. My garage door was finally installed by A-1 Garage Door Service, and I couldn't be more satisfied with the level of service I received. The cost of the door and installation was reasonable, and Frank Kawano and his crew did an excellent job of installing it. It not only required an over-sized door (almost 18 ft), but wooden supports had to be installed on both sides of the door. They made certain that the garage door is completely sealed from the outside weather, which I will certainly appreciate when the weather turns colder. In summary, by spending the time researching garage door companies in the South bay area (YELP, BBB) I found a Top-notch company (A-1 Garage Door) that provided professional quality installation at a reasonable price. Moreover, I know that if I ever need additional assistance, Frank is just a phone call away. As with another Yelp poster, I signed up at Yelp so that I could tell one and all how satisfied I am.
