We tried for nearly 6 days to get a hold of someone at that spa so we could set up a mother/daughter spa day for my moms 65th birthday, but not a soul ever called back. Finally so...

My favorite Massage Getaway 6/14/2011

I've been everywhere.. high end, back street great price, healers, Las Vegas ambiance, you name it- I am a massage snob. This place is an off the beaten path jewel. I've learned, you can get steam baths, and saunas and pay through the nose.. but seriously, when it comes to body work-- you have to "feel" it. And, this feeling is a vibe you get right away. When we walked down to the spa area, we weren't sure because it is like a little massage office-it's boutique and cute- but as soon as the therapists came to greet me, they had the vibe you hope for. This is a family run business.. the two ladies were auntie and niece and they were powerhouses. Ask for Jacquelyn and Allie when you go. I asked them what their style was so I could go find it on the mainland- but they said, "oh... our styles are a combination of techniques from around the world- but truly our style is what we call INTUITIVE- we FEEL you, your body, and how to free the energy blocks so your body can begin to let go and heal" Absolutely- after having an intuitive massage, I would look for no other. Yes, you can try their packages which seem like a good deal- The bartender and shop owners in town seem to agree that they are the best when we asked around town for a good massage. We got referred to the Sea of Romance which is a nice value especially with the intuitive healing. I will return to the Catalina Canyon Resort and Spa just to pay a visit to The Spa at Catalina. (If real essential oils are important to you, being away from downtown noise, huge treatment rooms-- something down to earth, real, and healing- this is the place I for you- Definitely I can not say enough about this place---when you find the real deal, it's hard not to gush) more

Island Delight 6/11/2011

My best experience on the island (drum roll please) was my massage... I had to practically drag my boyfriend to get a massage, it was his first ever and he didn't know how great it would be! Once we got to the spa we both felt relaxed.. It is tucked at the back of the Catalina Canyon hotel away from all the downtown noise, our hotel room downtown had the constant drone of golf carts going by. In fact, we will probably stay at this hotel next time. Going to the spa was lovely, the girl who checked us in was very nice and she quickly led us to our spa room... it was magical! It smelled like orange essential oils and the room had a warm glow to it. I loved that the treatment room was spacious I felt so comfortable. My boyfriend and I got the Couple's delight and I couldn't believe what a great service we picked! The service included a full body massage, a peppermint scalp massage, we opted for the scrub at the end, though there is a mini facial choice as well. We felt rejuvenated after. There was no skimping on the massage part, I felt like all my sore spots got attention. My bf now regrets not getting massages earlier and now gets them once a week but he says he never found a massage like at The Spa at Catalina. more

Best Massage I've ever had! 6/10/2011

I had to come back here and write a review bc the hater review from "don't bother" almost kept me away... I had read it before my trip, but ended up staying at the hotel by a coincidence where this Spa is located- My room was a few doors down from the Spa office. I actually planned on avoiding it bc and am so glad I didn't. I feel I must fairly redeem this gem, hidden off the beaten path. First of all, they have to be the nicest ladies on the island. You know how healers have that glow? It's not like a stuffy stiff uniformed place.. it is laid back... island style.. feels real instead of that salony feel. I would pass the office on the way to my room as smell lavender, lemongrass, and eucalyptus waifing through the air... I saw one of the treatment rooms- which were HUGE- local paintings on the wall, candlelit, totally boutiquey artsy. I went to my room and canceled my massage at a place I had dropped by earlier downtown with great reviews and rude people, dinky rooms-that looked like home depot decorated them-meh. I went back and reread the review from my phone on this place and realized they it was rated as filthy and rude people by someone who had never even stepped foot in the place. In fact, they only left a message, and after reading that they were called back at their home, my guess is that they only gave them their home number...whatever, doesn't matter except, I had believed it and almost missed a cool little island sanctuary... so knowing that-I wanted to take time to write a review based on something real- So I gave it a try and I was rewarded with seriously the most amazing spa treatment I have ever had. I ordered the StressBuster, great price, actually it was a better treatment and price than the one I ditched so that was a plus too- 80min of bliss- you have to try to peppermint scalp treatment is the bomb!...Next time, I would like to spend some time looking at their packages... I noticed the web address is wrong on this listing- their address is www.spaatcatalina. I am going to come back to the island just for the massage. If you come to stay at the Catalina Canyon hotel, book one of the Spa Rooms, it has a gigantic tub. Next trip, I am booking a massage for my husband to go with me bc the room is super large, all magically lit with little starry lights, candles, pure aromatherapy... and this giant shower for two people. I was bummed I didn't get to share the experience with him. I realized, watch out for bum reviews.. it almost seems like some one would have had to make that crap up-- I can not imagine anyone normal saying anything but angry people's energy goes a long way to mess a place up- I almost wondered if a competetor wrote the review as I did not run into really accommodating spa energy downtown.. but whatever-no loss because I found this place. Hope you do too. more

DONT BOTHER 8/19/2009

We tried for nearly 6 days to get a hold of someone at that spa so we could set up a mother/daughter spa day for my moms 65th birthday, but not a soul ever called back. Finally someone called, left a message on my phone saying she had been calling for three days trying to get a hold of me. She must have thought I was an idiot, because my cell phone IDs the person calling, and she never called until she called after we returned to the main land. We were actually relieved she didnt call, if the filthy condition of hotel is any indication of the spa, we were lucky to not have to pay to be disappointed. We went somewhere else and spent about $500 at the other spa. Not sure how they stay in business if they dont call clients back who plan on spending that much money. I cannot recommend this place to anyone. Pros: None Cons: Filthy facilities, staff rude more
