A School of Ninjutsu

Ever since I could remember I've wanted to learn ninjutsu... a lot of my interest was sparked by tv and movies... as they were the main place to find them. But now I've found some real ones, and have joined them in the training that I swear I was meant for.\r \r From day one I felt comfortable and invited. On my first day I dropped in just to observe and ended up on the mats finishing class with the rest of the group that night. And I've never looked back. I've been steadily going now for about six months and have enjoyed every painful minute of it. Now don't get me wrong, its not painful in a bad way, its more of an accomplished pain, because you know you are learning something worthwhile and useful. \r \r Starting off with the basics like rolling properly and learning how to fall and avoid injuring yourself, (as safety is a major concern) to more advanced techniques like countering an attack and then neutralizing the opponent so as to get away, the instructors Barry and Adam break it down step by step and explain how to do it. And once you get to the end of a string of different moves, you look back on the whole in awe, and think ""Whoa, I just did that.""\r \r Theres really nothing bad I can say about this school and its members. Its a great environment with lots of friendly people who are just there to have fun while learning one of the oldest martial arts in the world. I have been training at this dojo for only about a month and a half and do not have enough good things to say about it. The training is great, with top notch instructors. From day one, you are invited in and made to feel comfortable, the Bujinkan really is a community and it is great to be a part of that whole. The techniques have been passed down for thousands of years from battle to battle, and we are fortunate enough to have this tradition and knowledge right in our own back yard. These are cut to the chase moves without a lot of frill and wasted movements. They might not look as fancy, but they work. That being said the training is for everyone, intense enough for some of the energy filled teenagers that train, and flexible enough for John our 70ish student. If you have never trained in the martial arts, or you have sort of wandered through multiple arts, never feeling enough conection to hang your hat somewhere, the Bujinkan is for you. \r Again; professional staff, great atmosphere & real life applicable training. I have been involved with the Bujinkan Reiyo Dojo for about 2 1/2 months now and I am completely addicted to the art. The staff are always helpful and enthusiastic with the training. Starting from Barry the shidoshi of the school, down to his assistance Nick and Adam, I have been learning a great deal. I attend the Begginers classes on Tuesday nights, and when my schedule allows I try my hardest to attend the Monday's weapons training as well as the Wednesday classes for advanced techniques. Every time I attend, no matter what mood i start the day with or how tired i am. By the first 1/2 hour of class I find my self smiling and having the energy to keep training for hours. The atmosphere is very unique. It is never tense or awkward and allows for optimal training application. You get out of it whatever you put into it. Its always happy and lightweight all the while keeping with the tradition and effectiveness of the art. Ever since starting I look forward to every class and find myself thinking of how i can better each technique i am taught and training relentlessly ... I guess im really addicted but it is a very simple and effective art to fall into. I recommend this dojo to anyone wanting to learn how to have fun and be physical. This is a true martial arts school without the fluff. The instructor is experienced in many martial arts, but settled on Ninjutsu for it's application to real life situations. The training is geared toward all levels of experience, but emphasizes safety. The cost of the classes is very reasonable when compared to other schools. Self-defense is emphasized over aggression. This is definitely a good value for anyone seeking training in martial arts. If youre looking for hollywood ""Ninja"" style adventures youre not looking in the right place.\r You wont learn to run around in silly black Pajamas and fight ( or start ) crime , Fly , disappear into other dimensions or make shadow clones.\r If this or things like it is what youre looking for , i refer you to the yellow pages , Under T for therapists .\r If , however, You ARE looking to become a humbler , much more interesting person to know , Not to mention learn a very effective way to defend yourself and your loved ones , make friends and generally enrich your life, come on in. more

Incredible instructor (Barry) with a delightful manner of teaching that is fun and inventive! He has an awesome presence that brings the martial art teachings alive and is very patient with students of all levels. Anyone looking for the real-deal for ninja training and teaching, this is the place to be. Gambatte kudassai! more

Where to begin...\r The dojo's description as a school of ninjutsu is unfortunate, inaccurate, and may actually undervalue what IS actually being taught. \r \r This is a small private dojo and the instructor (shidoshi) has been certified to teach Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu by Hatsumi Masaaki, the head of the Bujinkan currently residing in Chiba, Japan. More importantly, the instructor has been an intelligent, enthusiastic, earnest, and hard-working student since his introduction to the art in 1985 or so. He teaches with a keen eye towards the critical details that may allow a student to gain real insight into a fascinating composite of classical martial traditions. I say ""may"" because insight is mainly the responsibility of the student. \r \r \r This dojo is where I began several years ago. I am a scientist by trade and have very high expectations for anything I make a commitment to. I feel that this dojo is a good place for people who are sincerely interested in learning about Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu and themselves. On the other hand, this dojo is not a business and, although it is welcoming to everyone, it is also not a half-way house for idiots, flakes, sociopaths, or fantacists. Why? There are lots of commercial martial arts schools that the previously described ""customers"" will find more to their liking. \r \r more
