A Cut Above Catering

A cut above catering is utterly terrible and I would highly urge anyone considering using them to look elsewhere to find a caterer! I am not the type of person to bash someone else, I am not putting this out there to ruin their business by any means; I do not wish to do that to them, everyone has to make a living. But for a special event such as our wedding, that only comes once in a lifetime you do not want to make the mistake we did of hiring a catering company that absolutely ruined it for us! From the very beginning our experience with A cut above catering was horrible, and I should have followed my instincts and not hired them, but to save money we decided to go with them. \r Well, you get what you pay for! When my husband and I drove an hour and a half to visit A Cut Above Catering for a tasting and initial meeting they did not even remember the items we had taken time to select for our tasting and served us subpar food on Styrofoam plates, the owner never apologized for not remembering the items we selected to taste and brushed it off when we expressed our frustration for driving so far to taste their food. Leading up to our wedding the owner spoke with me only a few times and went MIA on me for several weeks not returning my phone calls or emails, until a week before our wedding. The owner was utterly unprofessional and frankly terrible at customer service and did not seem to care about making us happy, just making her money. \r On our wedding day I had to hold back tears as I walked through the buffet line to get my food first as the bride. They did an absolutely horrible job on the food, table set up, décor like was promised, quality of food, and friendliness of servers. Neither owner was present at our event like promised. The staff was rude, and even gave my father who was paying for the entire wedding attitude when he requested more cups be stocked. They unprofessionally asked for payment during our reception from my father instead of appropriately asking for the check following a successful event. \r We requested a chocolate fountain with fruit for dipping. The fruit was cut into tiny pieces that were too small to dip into the chocolate in and the chocolate fountain was pathetic in size. The food quality was absolutely terrible. We had a pasta bar with marinara and alfredo sauce and the sauces were watered down and incredibly thin. We paid for 125 guests to eat and I do not think there was even enough food provided for 75. My own sister did not even get any food at our wedding because they ran out. They did not store the food in the proper manor and when guests used the restroom passing by the kitchen they could see into where the food was left uncovered on the floor.\r I was utterly embarrassed and felt horrible for not providing better food for our guests. Literally every time I have thought about our wedding I have had to block out the memory of our food to keep from letting it ruin our wedding in my memories. After the wedding when my Mom called to follow up with the caterer about the many issues we had with our reception and their awful food and service she was yelled at by the owner who never apologized for not being present at our wedding like promised or for their terrible service, attitude with the father of the, terrible food, or for an overall bad experience. She was not concerned with our utter dissatisfaction and was incredibly unprofessional. Overall A Cut Above Catering should simply not be in the business of catering because they did not seem to enjoy their job which showed in how they did not take pride in their work or care about their customers at all. Hiring them was bar far the greatest mistake we made with planning our wedding and if we had it to do all over again I would have rather had fruit and cheese trays from Walmart than hire them! They were simply terrible and you have been fair warned, NEVER HIRE THEM! \r more

I have used A Cut Above Catering several times for small and large events and could not be happier. The owners are professional, know the business inside and out and treat each client with respect and truly want to make each event very special. The food is the first rate, top quality. All of the dishes were wonderful, above and beyond our expectations. Every aspect of dealing with this company was close to perfect. I would recommend A Cut Above Catering to anyone planning a small or large event. The cost is very reasonable and it is 100% high quality. The owners were always available to discuss any questions I had and had very creative ideas, which enhanced the beauty of the events. We are very lucky to have this wonderful business in our community. more

I have dealt with A Cut Above Catering for several years now and have also attended functions that they have catered. I have ALWAYS had EXCELLENT service from them and by them. Wether it be the owner's themselves or the staff, they have always been kind, very mannerly, and exceptionally helpful. They make sure the clean up is done, tables put away, trash is taken out, etc before they leave. As for the food, they always bring a little more than is exspected, they also box up left overs for you to take home. They are there for you beck and call to make your event the best it can be. The food is the best of some of the other caterers I have tasted. The recipes they use are simple food made to look so good and taste as good as it looks. more

I have been using A Cut Above Catering for several years now. I have always had a good experience and the owners have been a pleasure to work with. I am a sales manager and part of my territory includes the Roanoke area. I often cater lunches for my clients prior to me giving presentations, and to thank them for their business. They were recomended to me by another sales manager who had been using them. He told me how it had made his life so much easier. He was no longer running around town going to different restaurants and stores picking up to-go orders, dealing with the hassle of setting-up and fixing missing items, and then waiting around to clean-up. The cost has been comparable, and depending on what's ordered it's often cheaper. The clients love the food because it's fresh and offer a good variety, Most of my clients have come to know the menu options and deal with the owners and employees directly to get everything the way they want it. They always run the specifics by me so I have no suprises. more

I attended a college graduation party that A Cut Above Catering provided there services for. The food was extremely tasteful. There was plenty of food and a large variety. There was something for everyone! The staff arrived early and had everything set up and looking great. The two staff members helped serve us and gave us all great descriptions of the food. After the event was over they boxed up the extra food they had prepared. They also picked up all the trash and took it with them so we didn't have to mess with it. We couldn't ask for better customer service. They even drove over an hour for this event. If you need a caterer, they are a must have. more

I attended a two day event that was catered by A Cut Above Catering. The first day they cooked a whole pig. They started early in the morning and cooked for fourteen hours before they even served us. The next day they did our lunch and had the juiciest chicken and melt in your mouth roast beef, that they carved and served us. The customer service was above and beyond. The staff refilled our drinks for us and collected our dirty plates and silverware off of our tables. The staff also helped set up for some of the other events that had nothing to do with the food. I would highly recommend them and will use them and them only for any future events that I have. more

A Cut Above Catering catered my lunch last week. Their service was remarkable and the hickory chicken was amazing. I recommend them to anybody and I will definitely be doing business with them again. more

Attended a wedding catered by this vendor on April 21, 2012 and would never use or recommend them. They arrived at the venue 30 minutes prior to the ceremony and were totally unorganized and unprepared. more

This catering company turn my daughter's wedding into a disaster! They sent two ""hired helped"" (they promised both owner's would be there) and the hired help was clueless what to do! They were contracted to be there at 1pm (wedding at 3) and they showed up at 2:40pm. They will promise you the world to get your business but your wedding or any event will turn into a disaster! Please don't use them! Worse company (if you want to call it that!) in the Roanoke, Salem, Boonesmill, and Smith Mountain Lake area I have ever had to deal with. When I got my invoice handed to me I told them I wanted to speak with the owner. When they got her on the phone she said she had to go to her daughter's game and that is why she wasn't there (hello ~ I paid you to be there it was my daughter's wedding and it's YOUR business agreement ~ company). They would not return calls, emails unanswered, and the most disfunctional businesses I have ever worked with. All I can say is, DO NOT USE THEM! I am SO sorry I did. You can't repeat your wedding day, or a special event, don't let this company distroy it! more
