Editorial review from Citysearch 10/1/2012

I arrived at this bar on a weekday night and it was pretty empty. The bartender served me my first drink within a few minutes of arriving. I had to wait approximately 15 minutes to order a second drink because the bartender was more interested in chit-chatting with her friends, who I assume were regulars at this bar. The food was terrible, and when my girlfriend attempted to complain about her incorrect order, although subtly, the waiter became really defensive. This may sound really bizarre, but after listening to my girlfriend's complaint, the waiter waited for me to go to the bathroom and he, with another girl, began directing very loud and very obnoxious behavior toward me as I entered the bathroom toward the back of the bar. Also, the bar reeked of spilled liquor. more

First of all, allow me to preface this 3/29/2012

First of all, allow me to preface this by saying that I have been in the service industry for over 10 years. So compared to most people I am EXTREMELY forgiving to restaurants, bars and their staff. I'd also like to add that my AWFUL experience at 92nd Street Cafe is the reason I signed up with Citysearch and write this review. My sister and I sat at the bar of 92nd Street Cafe on a Wednesday night and the place was dead. The only other people in the establishment were a family of 4 eating dinner at a table at 3 frat boys at the bar. Our bartender, MICHELLE, completely ignored us the whole time...instead, flirted with the frat boys next to us. I ordered a Colorado Bulldog, a drink every bartender should know how to make...when It came back with no cream, I politely asked for them to add it. It was thrown back at me as if I was the biggest nuisance for asking. The food...I wish I took a picture of it, it was such a joke. I ordered the ""Warm Chopped Grilled Vegetable Salad."" According the the menu it included grilled vegetables with diced peppers, zucchini, grilled corn, spinach and romaine lettuce."" It came to me, all romaine lettuce with what tasted like canned corn on top. I don't know where all the other vegetables were. When my sister asked what came on the salad, MICHELLE responded with an attitude like she obviously didn't care ""I don't know, green peppers, lettuce, some other things..."" Then walked away not offering to correct it. Even though we sat there with empty glasses for over 25 minutes, MICHELLE didn't check on us ONCE. Instead, flirted with the guys next to us. After almost 30 minutes, I asked ""Excuse me, are you our waitress?"" She gave me the look of death and asked ""What?"" I asked again ""Are you our waitress?"" She said in the snottiest, attitude ""I'm your BARTENDER."" It was at that point we asked for our check and left. When an establishment makes you walk away asking yourself ""What did I say or do to that waitress/bartender/whoever to piss them off and make them treat us so poorly"" you know it's a BAD place that you should never go back to. I may have even gone back despite the crappy food. But our joke of a service from MICHELLE and her ugly attitude is repellent to anyone. I hope Citysearch readers wont have to find out for themselves. more

Kareoke on Wednesday nights is a great idea with friends. Get a bucket of beers and some liquid courage. 11/1/2007

We went with a bunch of people for work and really lit it up with their Wednesday night karaoke. Buckets of Corona's and Bud Light flowed throughout the night and it didn't hurt that we got the sampler platter, your standard barfood appetizers, to keep us lucid. I ordered the shrimp scampi with garlic noodles and a minestrone soup to go and both came out in great time. Their menu is not very extensive, however, mostly consisting of bar food type sandwiches, hamburgers, some saladsAs always, it pays to let your server know that you're going to take care of them and Charley, our waitress, was attentive, busy and pretty together the whole time. The crowd was definitively mixed, from the cute 70 year old couple that said bye to us as we all got there, to the mid 20's. I liked that it wasn't too busy, but it was a Wednesday night and I've not been there on the weekend. It definitely smells like an old smoker's bar, but it is indeed non-smoking now, with a patio set up outside for the wanderers. The location is awesome, easy to find and close the 101. If you live in the area, it's worth checking out. Pros: Good friends make a good place. Location, seating more

Great Place To Drink - Poor Place To Dine 12/4/2006

My wife and I had our first and last meal here. Service was slow and poor, dining section was smoky (although it had some nice accents like candles), and the food was okay to poor. My wife had a chicken and grilled vegetable salad that was mediocre (it has NO vegetables, just chicken). I had a monte christo sandwich that was mediocre and overly deep fried. Considering how expensive nearly all the menu items were, I would probably never return. The bar looked busy and it appeared people were having a great time. So I might come here for a drink, and maybe order some appetizers, but dinner is forever more out of the question. Pros: They tried to make the dining area look nice Cons: Service was slow and unorganized; food was mediocre; pricing was not a good value more

Avoid this place! We found chewed gum in our soup! 9/4/2006

I took my family to this cafe while my grandma was in surgery. I thought it would keep us from stressing about the surgery. It definitely did that! My uncle found chewed gum in his soup. Instead of apologizing, the owner accused us of putting the gum in the soup. He went on to tell us that gum in the kitchen was against health regulations and that his employees wouldn't violate that. Well, if gum in the kitchen is against regulations, what is gum in the soup! The owner insulted us by accusing us of putting the gum there. My 65 year old uncle doesn't even chew gum... and we had more on our mind, like my grandma's surgery, than trying to get a free meal. believe me, if I planned to put something in my food to get something, I would ask for more than a free meal.\r I would not recommend this cafe to anyone. It's enough that the atmosphere is smoky... even the non-smoking section. If we found someone else's gum in our food, there's no telling what you might find. And don't expect the owner to be kind about it... especially since it must be all your fault.\r We left all of our food there... including food we didn't touch. We didn't want to risk eating anything else we didn't order. Pros: good location Cons: bad service more
