Shamokin, Pennsylvania may seem like a sleepy town but don’t let the size fool you! With more than 100 years of history to be explored here, you will not be disappointed, especially if you are a first time visitor.

Once a coal-mining town, Shamokin later became home to the largest textile building in the U.S., the largest ticket company in the U.S. and the Edison Illuminating Company. Thomas Edison was a brief resident of nearby Sunbury and he personally wired St. Edward’s Catholic Church, the first church in the world to have electricity.

Exploring historic sites can build up an appetite and we’ve got the perfect remedy here at 8th Street Café – home cooked meals in (what else?) a historic quaint café. We serve homemade soups, sandwiches, Panini’s, wraps, and pierogi’s. For breakfast we make homemade omelets, biscuits and gravy and even pancakes.

Or, you can just come with your friends and enjoy good conversation along with a freshly brewed cup of coffee along with our delicious home baked treats.

You can also bring your laptop, hang out for awhile and make new friends.

When the weather’s nice you can dine alfresco (outside) and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air.

So whether you’re just passing through or are a local resident, come and visit us at the 8th Street Café. We will make you feel right at home!
