We strongly urge anyone: NEVER to use the services of B & D?s 31W Insulation Company (615-859-8946), 118 Flat Ridge Road, Goodlettsville, TN 37072. We believe they cannot be trusted and that their company practices are deceitful. They trespassed on our property, made alterations to our home without authorization (verbal or written), and expect payment for their ?services? with no acknowledgment of their unethical actions. I believe this is an effort to secure business otherwise lost due to volunteers offering their services to flood victims, that they have violated our privacy rights, and are guilty of actions equivalent to breaking and entering. Our home was flooded in the Nashville flood on 5/2/2010. We secured quotes from several insulation companies. Note: We were made aware that 31W company policy is to collect payment in full prior to rendering any installation services. Our cell phone records indicate calls to 31W on 6/16/2010, (correlating with handwritten records) requesting our quote be placed on ""hold status."" TN Baptist Disaster Relief had offered to install our insulation at no charge. The 31W company agreed and they repeated my request, which I confirmed. She assured us our account was ?on hold? and there was no further action required. Several days later, we called Brandon Webster and requested a quote for the cost of insulation only for our crawlspace. He gave a verbal quote of 32 cents per sq. ft.: 1,100 sq. ft. = $352.00. TN Baptist would do installation only, so we were considering purchasing the insulation from 31W. Subsequently, 31W installed the insulation in our crawl space without our knowledge while I was there working with other contractors. Our car was parked in front of the house. They did not notify us know us that they arrived, no attempt was made to let their presence known, and no payment was requested. We were unaware of the installation until Brandon called to follow-up over a week later. We discussed it with him and offered to pay for insulation cost ($352.00) plus the water vapor barrier cost ($99.00 ? a price quoted from a different company) due to this being a cost we would have incurred regardless. He said he?d discuss it with his manager and call us back. We never heard anything until an invoice from 31W arrived certified mail for $778.00, threatening to ?take legal action.? Several further attempts have been made by us to settle this matter. The same offer was made to Jenna Gute in collections, which we feel is more than fair due to the circumstances. She told us they had $78.20 in labor costs, slightly reduced the charges, and refused to discuss further. When told about the quote we received for materials and asked how labor costs could be $78.20 she got indignant, hateful, and threatened legal action. I believe their behavior is unethical and unacceptable as individuals and as a company, especially when dealing with flood victims who have lost their homes.
