I have lived in many places in the east lansing area, and many of them were awful but this place takes the cake. When I signed my lease I had forewarned the staff that I was going to have issues making rent on the first of the month and asked if there was a way I could pay them weekly or bi-weekly. They said it wasn't going a problem at all and that if I had further problems to just let them know and they would work with me. What followed were ten months of constant and incessant badgering and harassment via phone, email, and front door visits just to let me know that I hadn't made a payment in a few days. And the sad part was that the head of the staff up there Erin Mack never even had the courtesy to come and talk to me herself, she sent her front desk person every single time and on some occasions even sent the head maintenance man down to make snide remarks along the lines of ""so are you ever going to pay your rent or should we just consider you moved out."" Very unprofessional. Also they made several illegal ventures into our apartment without any warning to check on why our electric bill was higher than most. Unless I'm mistaken I do not believe it is any of their business why its a little higher and I have the right to use all the electricity I want as long as I pay Consumers Energy. It got so bad that I felt uncomfortable even walking through the main lobby and would take side doors so I could avoid their embarrassing statements in front of my family and friends, which was completely unprofessional, and their judgemental stares and glares. After 10 months and fourteen days they finally decided to put an eviction notice on our door, which coincidentally was one months after i had made a substantial payment to get everything back to zero, and two days after I had made another $400 payment towards that months rent. Rather than deal with the lawyers and everything my roommate and I decided it would be better to remove ourselves from the situation and the stress it was causing us. Now its been almost two months and I have been trying weekly to get ahold of them to get information about our court date, fines, and the like so I can finally be finished with this decrepit old building for good and they refuse to give me any information of value. I've contacted the courts, their lawyer, and the Sterling Management Group making any and all attempts to get this settled and still haven't made any head way. So if you enjoy being badgered constantly, and being uncomfortable and feeling like a visitor in the apartment that you pay for than I would say go ahead and live here, but I can tell you from experience that its a very unfortunate and stressful way to live and will ultimately make you insane and very angry for months.
