We had the chance to stay at 27 State St. a few months ago and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The owners do not live there. Instead, they left us a note about parking (they have off-street parking for free!) and which room was ours and all we had to do was call them and let them know when we wanted breakfast. It was quiet, relaxing and the room was authentic historic Charleston. We stayed in the State Room, with exposed brick walls and original 1800 wide-plank wood floor. They even had a little set of bowls for our dog, Gentry, for his food and water. The breakfast was simple but good. Catered continental. The young man who served it, the manager, was courteous and very helpful. The location was not to be beat. Right in the center of everything! Overall, I had a very wonderful experience.
Pros: location, privacy, allows pets
Cons: on a busy street
