Best

I went to 21st A on a regular tuesday night out for beers after work and really liked it. I sat at the bar, tried one of their creative brews (watermelon wheat - refreshing) and e...

Worst

I live a block away from this place, so believe me, I wish it was better than it actually is. To be honest, the homebrew sucks. The ""ambience"" is fairly tolerable, so long as ...

Great Hamburgers 9/7/2005

What fun place it is for after work cocktails and supper. Pros: hamburgers, price, location Cons: noise, parking more

Fair food, very NOISY place. 6/15/2004

I can't comment on the beer since I don't drink. The food: unremarkable. It's not bad, but I think it's fine for what it offers. Some items are bit overpriced for what you get, but that's just my opinion. My dessert was outstanding. What I was unprepared for was the NOISE. This place is LOUD. Its cavernous size along with the slick surfaces doesn't help. I could barely have a conversation and I was seated away from the bar. I've been here twice, but the noise is way too much for me handle. Service was horrible the first time; on my second visit it was fine. If you like breweries with the loud, after work crowd all preening to look and sound important, this place is for you. Pros: Dessert Cons: , NOISY more

Lunch find 10/3/2003

I tried this place twice now on business lunches, so did not get to sample the attractive beer menu. I have had the Bay Bridge burger with a side salad and El Cubano sandwich with sweet potato crisps. Both were extremely tasty and BIG. They have a nice sandwich and burger menu all priced around $10. A major plus is they have outstanding Iced tea. The place had a bustling lunch crowd, but was comfortable due to the airey feel of the place. Service was adequate - fast first time, slow the next. I will go again. more

The Best 8/22/2003

Easily the best Brewpub in the city. I have toured most of the pubs in the bay area and I always come back to the 21st Amendment. Most places have either good food or good beer, but never both. This place is a rarety in that the food is always excellent and the beer is amazing. With some great service, you can't go wrong. The Double Trouble IPA is over the top, mucho hops! My girlfriend is a freak for there Watermelon Wheat..shhh, I kinda like it too. Yum! Pros: Food, Beer, Cute Waittresses Cons: Bhe, Not near me more

Bad attitude 8/15/2003

The food at this place is ok but over-priced. What makes the whole experience AWFUL is the bad service and bad attitdue of the wait-staff (the busboys do a great job). Are these people all former dot-comers angry at the world? I could understand on game day it might be difficult but they are rude every day at lunch. I will never go back there. The bartendress in particular does not like her joab and you will know it. more

I really like this place 3/21/2003

Great, casual atmosphere with great brews and burgers. Try the chili! Nice place to unwind, unpretentious and friendly. Reasonable prices. Pros: great atmosphere, great beer, reasonable prices more

Great Neighborhood Place 12/30/2002

I hate to see angry ""reviews"" from someone who's been to a place once, and probably in a bad mood. 21st Amendment is my local restaurant/bar and it's great to have such a cool place nearby. The food is consistently better than any of the other local places, the beer is the BEST in the city (I've heard many people say this), and the service has been uniformly warm, welcoming and professional since the first day I went in. Also-their prices are more reasonable than anyone alse in this hood. Pros: Great food, Great beer, Cool space Cons: Can be loud, Sometimes crowded more

Nickle and dime you to death 12/1/2002

We came in with a large group. The food was fair but the service was terrible. We spent 350.00 and we were charged a dollar for refills on the kid's drinks and 4.00 was added to the check as misc. food. When I questioned one of the kids asked for extra meat on the pizza?? The steak dinner was served with a mound of pink stringy potatoe chips. I would not return to this restaurant. Pros: good beer Cons: poor service more

Excellent place!! 11/6/2002

Had a great dinner here: nice, laid-back atmosphere, good food, and the north star red was excellent! more

Great Beer, Good Food, Loud Crowd!!! 9/19/2002

The recent review in the Chronicle hits the nail on the head for this Brewery/Resturant just a few blocks up from PacBell Park. I have stopped in a few times with friends on game days and have yet to be dissapointed with this great addition to the local brewery scene. If you are in the mood for some great beer and damned good food before or after the game this is definitely one place you should check out. It does get packed so be prepared for an extremely raucous scene (as it should be). As for happy hour you can't beat the prices and it is a more intimate atmosphere, perfect for a large after work gathering. Do yourself a favor and try the watermelon wheat beer before they run out again...trust me you won't be dissapointed. more

Great Burgers 9/13/2002

Great burgers and a great place to meet up with friends for a drink or two. Good atmosphere. more

Chain Sports Bar Feel in Small Package 8/30/2002

Generally welcoming any additional restaurants near South Park, not 21st Amendment. An upscale sports bar, it leaves you feeling like you just spent an evening in Gordon Biersch. The local brewed beers deserve applause for effort, but nothing else. The food is as bland as the Brook's Brothers preppies populating the place. I'd sooner eat at a Chili's. Stay away from the Angry Pasta, unless feeling angry from ordering a TV dinner tasting dish is your bag. The service is indifferent, but you wouldn't expect anything less as they're deafened by the roar of their cash register while catering to the latest game night mob. Prepare to stand unless you're prepared to eat.

Want a sports bar, head to Zeke's on 3rd. Want an bar with excellent drinks, go next door to Infusion. Want superb food, stop by South Park Cafe. Want 21st Amendment, go back to the Marina. Pros: Big, Funny people watching, Lots of windows Cons: Bland food and beer, The people, Game day crowds more

burger perfection 8/27/2002

The Niman burgers at this hot and popular brewpub are simply by far the best in the city.We also love the fat fries that go with them. There's also rosemary and other things in the fabulous slow grilled onions that are mounded on top. more

Great beer, good food. 8/16/2002

One of my favorite brewpubs. Exellent beers and very good food. It's also a nice place to go after ballgames at Pac Bell Park. Pros: Great beer, close to ballpark, good food more

Best Frickin' Burgers! 8/8/2002

I'm a burger snob and have tried them all. Nothing, I mean nothing, compares to a 21st Amendment burger. And their fries???? To die for. Overall they've got a great menu, fabulous beer and a friendly wait staff. If you want a good meal without having to pay out the nose and you'd like a low key meal without all the pretentious hub bub, 21st Amendment is your place! Pros: Inexpensive, No wait, Great food & beer more

Homebrew? Huh? 6/13/2002

The beers are some of the best the city. I am a local and frequent the establishment often. It is far superior to most of the restaurants in the neighborhood and cheaper, especially compared to Paragon, Momos, Acme, Chophouse and Max's. Come on, those places are way over priced. Pros: Beer, Food, Service Cons: Crowded more

Not all that 6/4/2002

I live a block away from this place, so believe me, I wish it was better than it actually is. To be honest, the homebrew sucks. The ""ambience"" is fairly tolerable, so long as it's not a game day. The service is attentive, but emotionally detatched. The food....why is it that I always order the hamburger? I think it could be that there aren't a whole lot of other interesting alternatives. Also, it's way overpriced. Newsflash: the Dot-com boom is over, OK? Can the prices come back down to earth? Also, why is the butter always frozen rock hard? Can you please tell me how you spread butter that's so hard it could cut glass? Unless you're B&T on your way to a game, skip this place. more
