Live like a New York!! Ask for the Parlor!! 12/10/2008

Located in one of the safest and luxurious neighborhoods in New York, the 1871 House made me feel like a true New Yorker. The rooms are twice the size of most hotels and the prices, while not cheap, cannot be beat for this type of location. The location was incredible. The house is surrounded by a great variety of restaurants (my fiance and I fell in love with Jo Jo?s only two blocks from the house), the shopping is great (spent way too much time at Barney?s NY, but not nearly enough time at FAO or the puppy store right around the corner) and went to Central Park everyday (3 minute walk). There are a few subway stops right near the house for visiting other attractions or you can easily find a cab at any time (one of the benefits of being in a nice neighborhood is that cabs are always around). \r The room that I stayed in was called the Parlor Studio and was one flight up. The room was spacious, the sheets were soft, the bed was comfortable and there was a small kitchenette in the room. I got to see a few more rooms when they were being cleaned and they each had their own feel. The Parlor, I am happy to say, remained my favorite, but the Garden Room definitely had its allure, especially for the summer months. The staff was very helpful. They were able to find that balance between being there when you need them and giving you your space. My one piece of advice is if there is something you need don?t assume that they can?t or won?t help. It never hurts to ask. Don?t take their not being in your face as them not being friendly or not wanting to help. I appreciated not having to make small talk every time I walked in or out of the house, but knew that they were there if I needed something. I really felt like I had my own studio in New York for the week that I stayed there. \r \r Pros: large rooms, great location Cons: there is no parking more
