Conde Nast called this one of the great hotels in the USA.
My wife and I and our standard poodle agree. It is in the group of hotels, not a chain, which includes the Taj Majal in Bombay (Mumbai). Between the great review in Conde Nast and our experience in Bombay, we tried it. It is dog friendly, amazingly so with a small bag of goodies for the dog and plastic bags for her too. Walking near the hotel could be considered a bit dicey, but the Church's Fried Chicken parking lot and other nearby properties have places for you dog to relieve itself.
We had a small suite on the 5th floor. This is a real eco friendly hotel, to keep the lights on you have to leave your key in the holder by the door. We have not seen that feature except in Europe. The toilet overs single or double flushes. The shower can be set for preferred temperatures for up to 6 people. It delivers copious water, something which is missing from most hotels.
We ate at the 1802 restaurant, wow was that a treat. Earlier in the day my wife had room service which she said was as good as the Taj in Bombay. The lamb chops at dinner were the best I have ever had and the server asked the temperature and I replied 140 degrees Fahrenheit and I believe it was exactly that when served. Amazing for the USA
There were three LG HD TV's. Not something my wife or dog or I are into, but most people like this.
Free WI-FI which is rare in an expensive hotel. Hilton and Sheraton generally charge more than $10.00/day
The robes are great, and we bought two for home for $75 @.
The room cost $279 or so. The dog $50, no matter how long the stay, covers fumigating and clean up. $27 for valet, probably worth it. Dinner with wine and tip was $125.
If you have a few bucks this is really a great hotel
Pros: Fabulous Rooms, great decor, amazingly good service
