My boyfriend and I had restaurants to another restaurants down the street but ended up missing our reservations so we walked down McDougal and found 12 Chairs. The menu looked really interesting and was VERY reasonably priced so we decided to sit down. We were there in the early afternoon on a weekend so it was pretty full but had a few tables open. From the looks of it, it was mostly people that knew each other or had already known the wait staff, it seemed like a very neighborly place which was nice. The menu was really interesting and everything they were bringing out to the other tables looked delicious so it was hard to pick just one thing on the menu! I ended up ordering a mushroom and onion omlette. The eggs and vegetables were cooked just right and after adding a sprinkle of black pepper on top of the eggs, it was perfectly seasoned. My boyfriend got the Shakshuka which is two eggs poached in a spicy moroccan tomato sauce; served with israeli salad. It looked delicious and smelled even better so I had to try a bite. It was served piping hot, and was just the right combination of heat and spices. The entire staff was also very friendly! I'm really glad we stumbled upon this place, and the next time I'm in soho for a day of shopping I'll be sure to stop by! It's also really nice because it's right by the subway so it was the perfect place to go on a cold and rainy day like the one we had. The prices were also VERY reasonable, which just made the entire experience wonderful.
Pros: Shakshuka, near subway, friendly ambience and wait staff, great value
Cons: too many choies on the menu!
