I have eaten at 1 or 8 three times and it is truly my favorite. I consider myself a foodie, especially when it comes to sushi. When in Manhattan, I usually eat at Sushi Seki, Sasabune, 15 East, Ushiwakamaru, and Sushi Yasuda. 1 or 8 is right up there with the best of them. I have never eaten any of their, rolls but they look great and very creative. I only sit at the sushi bar and order the Omakase. Kazuo (head sushi chef/ owner) is always very friendly and eager to have you sample his favorites. The fish is very fresh and the sauces/ toppings (ex: fresh grated ginger) are always great. The omakase at the sushi bar ranges from $50 and up. I usually start at $50 and see what Kazuo suggests and once I have reached the amount, I order more of my favorites served in the omakase. Their miso soup is a definite winner! They make the tofu in the soup bowl that it is served in. It takes form to the bottom of the bowl. The soup is by far the best I have ever had!! I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who knows good sushi.
