Review content:
I recently moved to Virginia and needed to get the state inspections done. I own a 2002 Avalanche and was having trouble with the tailgate lock not working properly. While the other review on this site is correct – the people were very friendly and helpful and explained things in detail, the actual suggested service was ridiculous. They told me my car failed inspection and needed to have the parking break fixed for $1350. Part of the service was new rotors, and considering that I had just serviced the breaks myself a year ago, I found this hard to believe. Plus, $1350 for a break job!? The car also ‘needed’ a tune up and gaskets replace totaling another ~$2000. So, for nearly $3500, my car could pass inspection. To fix the tailgate lock, they said it needed a new cylinder – which I also found hard to believe as the key turned the cylinder fine, but the mechanism that actually engaged/disengaged the lock didn’t work properly and the key would get stuck. It seemed to me to be an alignment issue. They wanted $375 to fix that. I said no to everything. I took my car elsewhere and, big surprise, I passed all the VA inspections w/o any work. I looked at the tailgate myself and found that the mechanism was sticking and somewhat rusty. I got a $2.00 can of lubricant and sprayed it in there and the lock works better than it ever has. I will never go back to Lindsay Chevrolet and would suggest anybody thinking about service there steer clear. I also forgot to mention that I wanted an oil change ($30 – which is reasonable) and tire rotation ($30 more – also ridiculous) and they tried up-sell me to a nearly $600 service package. I would tell anybody to beware of the service….
